Before few days i bought Thumb bass 6string neck-through (bubinga). This instrument is very very beautiful and sound is the best! But play is not very comfortable because is unbalanced and have small body and neck is lot front.

Do you have similar problem with thumb bass neck-through ?

I hope if i extend hold for guitar strap then instument will be balanced.

Do you have any advise?

I own 6string fretless bass and play is more comfortable then my new warwick :o((

Thanks for your advises.

Hi,

your bass should hang in the same position when you're sitting and standing. You should adjust your strap so that the bass lies on your stomach rather than on your knees.

I own several Thumb basses (BO & NT 5 strings). I don'thave any problem.

Hope this helps.

Maybe if you don't mind the extra weight you could put something heavy in the electronics chamber (stick it with something so that it doesn't f*** anything up)

I have a thumb 5 NT but i dont experience any balance problems at all.I wear it at just below chest height so it's not under my chin or below my knees, maybe this balance issue with thumbs is a personal comfort thing.I cant say it balances any better or worse than any of my other basses.

Have you opened up the back of one of these babies? there is absolutely zero space for putting anything in there... unless it is a piece of chewing gum made from lead!

If Bass is balanced for horizontal position then is it bad. Because more complicated bass lines is practically impossible to play. I think that right position of the bass is following: Head is higher then body for comfortable play. For this possition thumb is not balanced :o(

I think that bass would be stay every position !!! horizontally or slant

I hope that extrude hold for strap will help.

I think Thumbfreak is right - the ideal height for a bass is supposed to be the same seated or standing - therefore adjust the strap to this height while seated. If you're a slapper (now that means something completely different around these parts) you may want it under your chin; and if you're a real rocker, you may want it around your ankles.

I have the bass a bit lower than I should (especially at my age), but make up for this by pulling the neck up (Bill Wyman style) for the twiddly bits. I have a neoprene comfort-style strap, so the bass tends to stay put rather than slide about.

One company (may be Planet Waves?) make something called the "squid" - which is a rubbery-sucky-type-thing which sticks on your strap at shoulder level and may stop things moving around, but I don't know how well it works.

Your right mate, planet waves sells the squid,if balance is an issue i think it'd be worth trying one out.On a slightly different note I was just wondering why anyone would buy a thumb if they dont like it's feel, dont people play their basses b4 they off load thousands of bucks??? I know i do.
