pre-amp question

this has probably been asked before, but has anyone ever clipped the pre-amp in the electronics of their bass? is it even possible? i think i may have done it with my ss2 this evening when playing really hard on my lowest string. my amp wasn't clipping and the cabinet was fine, but i could still hear distortion. i turned the volume knob on my bass from full to probably about 90% and the distortion was gone, even when i played really hard again. so, i thought i would ask if anyone else has come across this.
 
Hey Johnson,

Inside the electronics compartment, you can see a trim pot located on the preamp board. You can lower the gain from there until you have no distortion. Other think you could do is to lower the pickups a little.

This control Is it in all warwick models? I have a earlier LX5 CS with Seymour Duncan Basslines and I don't see this knob...

Only Warwick's with the 3-band EQ have it. There's no pot on the 2-band preamp.
 
thanks alot guys. i have adjusted the trimpots on my basses before, i just completely forgot that that could be the problem. thanks again, and also, thanks for the detailed pic! haha
 
hey speaking of which. I have been wondering about the pre amp that i have which is a seymour D 3 band on my SS2. There are 2 trim pots but i have no idea which one is which or even what they are for. freqs? pre-amp volume? I tried looking at the seymour d web page but couldn't find anything about it.

and another thing is why is it that if i turn the bass all the way the speakers distorts but it seems that if i turn it 90% the bass sound very middy. I can't get a deep tone. :?:
plus the vol is really low compared to my MIM Jazzbass, while the pu are pretty close?

The Trim-Pots are for adjusting bass-boost and mid-cut when switching to slap/contour mode. You can activate it by pulling the volume knob.
The trim-pot at the edge of the board if for bass, the other one for the mids.
Are you sure you're adjusting the bass pot? It's the bottom of the stacked pot (if your preamp is wired as default)
If your volume is too low, you might add a second 9V battery to run the preamp/PU with 18V.
 
I also have had problems on my SS2 with Seymour Duncan stc3a and ajb5 pickups. So, I have the same configuration as Insane.

The pickups have to be REALLY high in order to get decent sound out of the G and B strings. The strings and action are very low as well. I have everything at 18v and the gain is less than the old MEC stuff. When I can get it right, the growl is amazing. But I don't know what's wrong...Maybe it's just this way?
