Plastic on the thumb

I there.

A few days ago i dismantled almost completly my thumb and noticed that under bridge there was a plastic "structure", thing.



I saw somewhere in this forum that fome warwicks have a metal where mind has a plastic one.Wouldn´t a metal plate there help in the thumb neck dive problem??

Are you sure it's plastic ?? Because it's supposed to be metal, at least so I believe it should be............Welcome to the forum man.:D
 
welcome to the forum. unfortunaltely since I am at work can not see your pic. I have no plastics on my basses.

I wish I could see it but this makes no sense.

He's referring to the frame beneath the bridge that's screwed to the body with two screws.

Metal Freak:

this is a frame to moutn the bridge upon and has a ground wire to the bass. should not be plastic. take out the top bridge portion and will be a metal platform or a metal frame (whatever you want to call it).;)
 
On two of my bass's I machined down the bridge bass plate a little to get the action lower.I didn't want to shim the neck.It's made of metal,what kind i'm not sure but mine werent plastic.
 
I think I remember reading on a post that they used to be brass or something to help with the neck dive problem, but switched to plastic to help reduce overall weight. Same kind of thing with the tuners, no more brass because whatever they're using now is lighter than brass. I'll try to find a link and post it...

Yes i was talking about that frame that holds the bridge and i´m pretty sure that its plastic does anyone know if it is possible to get a metal or brass or whatever it is one??

Is this a Thumb thing only?

I have a 2004 Proline, and my bridge's base is gold plated metal,
just as the knobs, bridge, and tuners are... Peculiar.

We are using a lighter alloy, but no plastic.

Are you sure it's plastic? It cannot be...
 
Shouldn't be plastic! To test, beat that piece lightly with any metal and the sound will tell you all!
 
Ok maybe its not plastic but i´m pretty sure its not metal, maybe something that looks like plastic or something.



Anyway it should be like a metal plate there and it aint.
Does anyone know if it is possible to replace that frame for a metal plate??
 
Well,

that looks exactly the same as what I have on my Warwicks. It does have some kind of thick layer of coating/paint that appear plastic like at first. Underneath it, it's metal......

But isn´t a metal plate like some warwick basses have better for the thumb neck dive problem???

If you can lay your hands on a complete set of hardware from a vintage Warwick,you might be in luck.If the bass sounds & performs to your satisfaction as is,what's the point in changing it?
The current tuners are alot lighter than the vintage tuners,so you dont really need that extra weight under the bridge.;)
 
I really don´t mind the extra wheight i just would like to get rid of the neck dive, i really love this bass and the neck dive is the only thing that bothers me.I guess i have to learn to live with it.

I know that a guy with a custom shop 7 (or 6) string Warwick had one of these metal bars built inside. Maybe you can PM Florin and ask if Warwick can supply one of these bars for your Thumb. I know it's not a standard part you can buy in the webshop. You can also make the neck just a bit lighter by installing really lightweight tuners.
Someone on this forum had weights installed on the strap near the bottom strap lock, which I think is an interesting idea.
