Piezo Bridge

Because they involve some special wood work too, so they don't fit easy to a normal Warwick bass. That's the reason we offer them only on new CS basses.

Could you plz clarify something .... Mayhaps
I'm asking about a difference between a full
"Custom Shop" bass and a "Special Ordered"
[or "Custom Ordered"] bass.

IOW, aren't there a few options that can be
ordered at extra cost on a non-custom bass ?
And isn't the piezo bridge such an option, in
a similar manner as prefering a non-MEC PU
system ? Frinstintz, I was told [by a GC, LOL
but bear with me ...] that my Vett $$ FL was
"Special Ordered" just due to the JAN-1 and
the flatwound strings. Acoarst I bought it as
a clearance price item cuz the original buyer
finally chose something else. But, it was put
on clearance right away [rather than waiting
til it was old inventory] cuz it wasn't normal
new inventory ... just for the nut & strings !

I have a piezo-bridged, non-MEC [EMG] Vett
that is otherwise very ordinary ... no active
EQ, no special wood or finish. When you look
at it, all you notice is an extra knob.

I know thaz how EBMM does it ... no custom
shop, but you can order a noncustom regular
bass and still have a choice of PU configs, FB
wood, lined or unlined FL, piezo bridge, etc.

My piezo StingRay is much like my piezo Vett
in that, at a glance, the only hint of the piezo
is one more knob than is usual [OK, plus a
small extra hatch on the back side ... ]. So
wadza deal at Warwick ? Same ? Different ?

Dont quote me on this,but I think options that are done in the setup stage,like a different nut/pickups/electronics or strings,are considered non custom shop.Options that require non standard woods,routing ec are custom shop.

Indeed!

...:roll:

Golem, Greg is right.

Some things as pickups, color, hardware, can be done quickly, while others (piezo bridge as well) needs some extra care, and they are done only in Custom Shop.

OKeedoke.

Well I humbly [LOL] suggest to Warwick that
if EBMM, who have no CS services, can offer
a piezo bridge as a simple production option,
then Wick can do it too.

Offering it as a simple option would put more
piezo Wicks in players hands, which is bound
to be good for spreading Wick's reputation for
superior tone woods. Mag PUs cannot deliver
"The Sound of Wood" the way piezos can.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I shop for MY kinda bass, FL piezo, I'll
find enuf piezo MM's that I can skip some of
them just for color or other minor reason, but
my piezo Wick is the only one I've ever seen
avaialble, ready to play. It lacks some things
I'd have held out for if piezo Wicks were just
a bit more common, but as they are so rare I
jumped on mine when it turned up.
Yeah OK so there's some difference, however
minor, in the woodworking. Warwick already
offers minor differences in woodwork for sake
of tone, without going into CS. The Vett/FNA
body has had at least 4 different non-CS rout
and hole patterns: '$$', 'JJ', 'MasterMan' and
'JazzMan'. So, it CAN be done. Piezos can be
an "ordinary" option, or a model variation. A
piezo bridge offers more tonal difference than
the choice of 'JazzMan' vs 'JJ' PU config, and
those two PU configs require minor woodwork
differences. A piezo config requires an equally
minor difference.
But Golem, my man, don't let this "Custom Shop" thing scare you... It works the same as EBMM I guess. You go to the dealer and you say:
- Hey, Mr Dealer! I want a Wick with Piezo!
and the dealer says: - Okeydokey!
OK. Then you mean Wick charges ONLY for
the option you choose .... no additional
charge just for "entering" the CS realm ?
If so, thaz sorta cool .... not that I've ever
ordered a new bass. Consider this twist:
On one hand, I might seem the to be the
more independent, even renegade type of
buyer, founder of The PK Golem Home for
Weird, Abandoned Basses
.
But ... OTOH ... since I tend toward used
basses, the brands, models, etc of basses
I play are tied less to what each company
offers in-total, and more toward what any
company's following, or customer base, is
tending to buy from that company.
Frinstintz, apparently, EBMM's following,
which I spoze includes the sales network,
apparently sees themselves as somewhat
out of the mainstream. Dealers actually
order piezo basses as retail stock and the
customers are actually buying them ...
otherwise how would I find enuf of them
selling used to be a bit selective about
which examples I finally buy ?
Having enuf variety in play myself, I can
objectively say that the most worthwhile
'home' for a piezo bridge is on a Warwick
[amongst 'factory built' basses]. But, it's
the EBMM followers who have embraced
the piezo while Wicksburgians have not.
This is a matter of awareness, or lack of
awareness, of what brings greater ROI
[return on investment]. The ROI in this
case is NOT about resale value retained,
but rather about musical potential of the
ax in hand. Acoarst, awareness is very
much a result of promotion. "The Public"
is not gonna do all the research.
I guess in a way, it's circumstance. The
EBMM followers can't pimp out their ax
with a zebrano top, nor fancy inlays, nor
gold hardware, nor choose exotic woods
for its construction. They can't even get
alternative PUs or electronics ... except
in that they can choose among 3 basic
PU configs plus the piezo option.
Don't think I have something against a
variety of available exotic woods, but
feel free to think I have doubts about
the common sense of some followers of
"The Sound of Wood" who will skip over
the piezo option, while spending much
more on cosmetics, and on fancy wood
that NEEDS a piezo to be well and fully
heard. IOW, penny wise, pound foolish.
Florin rules!
It is so simple:lol:
cmon florin, buy my thumb!!;);)
Haha, I forgot to tell about negotiating the price :-)
Golem, yes, we don't have a CS upcharge, we pay only for the extra options.
And I have to agree with you. Ok... we are all friends here, I don't wand someone to tell me I am a woos... But first time I played my white streamer with piezo, it was like... "OMG, where have you been?"
I had tears in my eyes, while playing that bass. True story, I swear!
About MM, I think the explanation is simple (or a possible explanation) A MM dealer has to buy a Stingray, a Stingray5, Sterling, and a Bongo.
A Warwick dealer on the other hand....
Piezo Woos to Piezo Woos ... I hear ya, bro'.
