Pickup for my Streamer

Hi,

(Greg from france)

I own a 1992 streamer stage I 5s and I'm about to change electronic and maybe pickups (2 Bartolini soapbar on my bass), but I cannot choose between several brands. I play all kind of music in different bands : rock, funk, hip hop, soul.....

Electronic:
- Aguilar OBP3
- EMG BQC System
- MEC

Pickups:
- EMG
- MEC
- Bartolini

What would be the best choice for my bass ?

I think everyone has their preferences, but I think the
combination of MEC/MEC works more than fine... I mean,
why stray from it, if it works so well!?

(Barts are really great for a more, classic/vintage tone
imo though.)

Actually, i've changed every parts of my bass last year 'cause it's an old one.(1992)But she has the best streamer shape ever !!! (braod neck, flat neck...)

She's like brand new: new colour, new hardware

But old pickups (2 x bartolini soapbar) and old electronics (Patrice Blanc preamp).

What would be the best choice ?
 
I can't really immagine how the OBP3 preamp would work in a Warwick as the standard Mec bass control is centered @ 100Hz, but on Aguilar it is 40Hz. There has to be some point why W use the 100Hz band. don't know, if you install the OBP3, please let us know about the results.
Aguilar preamps don't have that hiss the W preamps do, but most manage to live with that.
Pickups - Mecs are the safest way, they don't color the sound of the instrument, Seymour duncan - good for rock, have a dip in the mids, EMG - well, there is a whole war of opinions about them, some say they have a sound of their own, some say they have a nice presence, I think a Warwick bass has to use less sound coloration possible where EMGs as pickups fail.

I would go with MEC pickups and any of those preamps, they're all good IMO.
 
Thanks for your help, but I think I'll choose this combination :

- crel pickups (2 soapbars humbuckers DB 52 1)
I think the best pickups because handmade with carbon fiber cover
You can split the humbucker and get a single jazz bass sound

- Aguilar OBP3 electronics 'cause you can split medium frequency.

My Streamer I 5 came with Bartolini Pickups and Bassline preamp, the pickups are passive and the SD preamp is active 100K....wrong match and the sounds is not right....

There is no MEC stuff in Taiwan and I can't find Bartolini preamp. I heard that OBP-3 is good for Bartolini pickups so I put it on.

The output and the range of the onboard EQ have been improve very much, I am not sure they are the best for Streamer but it is the best I can get in Taiwan. the OBP can match all the pickups, they come with no pot, you can use 25K for active pickups and 250K or 500K for passive pickups...

My Warwicks are all used bass so I don't have any bass loading both MEC pickups and preamp, but my Thumb NT 5 have MEC pickups with EMG BTC, the MEC pickup is better than EMG. My Stremaer II have EMG pickups with MEC 3 bands, the power is awsome....

I believe that all the pickups are good but the best choice for Warwick should be MECs. I wish I can buy a MEC 3 band preamp for my Thumbs, the output of Thumb bass is weak and there is a output control on the preamp, I can boost more output.....
