I agree with you Lex. If Jayen is the fastest I'm glad for him That's awesome! But to be honest I couldn't care less. Being the fastest bassplayer has never been my goal/dream

I could not care less about being a famous bass player...but I can at least still appreciate another's happiness about being offered the opportunity, such as Casey, MichaelJ and yes even Jayen...Does anyone here care that I do or do not care...no I didn't think so...So why bring Jayen down with negativity and comments about not caring? That somehow his achievements are meaningless because they don't fall within our idea of what 'musical achievement' is. Speed doesn't matter? Well, for some, neither does groove, nor thrashing, nor melody or rhythm or any other aspect of so called 'music'. Is Mongolian throat chanting not music because we don't play it?

Anyway, Lex, I figured you weren't being demeaning. And we all post here in the hope that someone 'out there' or more to the point 'in here' will care. I think we should be more supportive of each other, thats all....

I know what you mean and you are right. Us bass players need to stick together and welcome different ideas. There was a day and time when bass playing wasn't "cool", but it has come a long way over the last 30 years. But it got that way because people challenged and pushed themselves. Otherwise, we would just settle for the root and 5th.

This calls for an "internet" hug.

This reminds me of one of those western movies where the new gunslinger steps into the saloon as the fastest. Some people pat him on the back and buy him a drink while others plot to take him down or question his credentials. I suppose if I held a record or was interested in being famous (or doing anything worthwhile) :wink: I'd want people to know too. It's just that there's a difference between going into a room full of strangers and making an announcement and doing the same amongst "friends and aquaintances". Some of us got to "know" each other over time and conversation so we give support on things that have nothing to do with bass playing. For the most part, the people here are very cool and I'd bet that if after a few weeks of bass discussion, no one here would have responded negativly. Jayen, I'm glad you've found your way on the bass.

I don't think we can go any further on the topic. Some like fast playing just for the sake of it, and some don't.

I set the Record on an ordinery bass Guitar @US $ 150. I claimed and submitted my Record Attempt description as Percussive Bass Playing,since molody will be lost when speed increases and the strings ve to be muted to avoid overlaping of notes sound. I am to set another record in melodic bass playin next year.. Present Guinness record in this category is 4 notes/beat at 250 BPM. I tried it and do it at 260 BPM. However, there re some guys who play this speed, but they dont apply or go for a Record.
In my video of 23/8 , I played only at 230 BPM. I don t practice on Guitar all the time, but I have some finger excecise tools in my pocket all the time...I practice on that...I myself made that tool.... Thats the best way to gain finger movement, I believe so!. I will play infront of all those who don t believe it and all those who believe it.
My Band Indian Epics(Raga-Funk-Rock) has shows on 17th, 31st and so on in India... and I play bass solos live. We are to record our album after 17th. I know, I am now into the middle to face massive criticism. But I keep my fingers moving... and surely with a Warwick soon.......

I've googled you (sadly I actually wasted my time doing that) and all I found was myspace links, youtube links (which didn't contain any thing that is near the speed you claim you can play) and various blog posts claiming that you are the world record holder. I have not seen anything official on any official sites claiming what you do.

It sounds to me like this is all a made up "world record" and just an attempt for you to get your name known.

Personally, whilst I'm not a huge fan of super fast percussive playing, it's pretty clear he's onto something new and cool, and that 'Good Times' song shows him off as a very cool and groovy bassplayer.

Give the dude a chance to produce his proof, if it matters so much to you. Personally, I'm prepared to take him at his word. Nobody jumped down your throat when you announced that you're playing on Conan O'Brien (notably, without providing a date, or any other form of proof whatsoever) and accused you of lying or shamless self promotion.

and besides, you're one of the most actively self-promoting players I've found anywhere...you do more Myspace promotion than pretty much anyone - and its a good thing! Promotion is a tough business, and if someone pust the time and effort into doing it, then good on them! This goes for pretty much all of us.

I think you came down super-hard on Jayen (who seems a cool guy and a great player), and I can't even imagine why.

I must say, I didn't like Jayens first posts when he came. Seems like he was talking in 3rd person, seemed arrogant. But his later posts haven't been arrogant at all.
We're all just human. Nobody loves everything. I don't love Jayen's playing (The speed is quite impressive, but I do not like how a lot of it sounds) but on the other record, halfway across the world, I don't really like your band either Casey. I love the sound of your bass in it, but the music isn't my type. Opinions and opinions. Nobody is more right than others.
This thread has been quite harsh, and doesn't reflect the love of the Warwick forum. Don't close the thread, that'll leave us like China, covering up the truth, what may not be so good out here.

I am sure Jayen was not at all arrogant, he just phrased in a normal way for his country. We all should understand those things. Casey you were very harsh on him, but knowing you for long time on the forum, I know you are a cool guy, and it was an exception.
