Pedals You Want To Try

There are some cool pedals in this video, but I don't think the guy in the video understands that you can't really play a bass in the lowest register through one of these things and expect it to produce a defined pitch. They only track just so far down and then it's just noise.

That said, it's not a bad overview. I really liked the EBS. I'm currently running a Boss OC-2. Everybody says it's better than the OC-3, but I really liked the "drive" sound in the OC-3.

I keep buying them and then not using them. I currently have a Digitech Bass Synth Wah and a Boss SYB-5 collecting dust, along with a Source Audio Multiwave Bass Distortion which I bought due to its "synthiness". This one will probably meet the same fate eventually, LOL. I play mostly funk, so it's not unthinkable for me to use a synth pedal live, but I keep getting results I like better just by combining the more conventional effects I already have on my board.

The Digitech is actually kind of cool. It's not a true synth, but combines fuzz, octave, and wah in various ways to get that sound. It has a pretty reasonable straight autowah sound hiding in it, and the octave tracks really well too.

I once had an opportunity to get a really good deal on a Markbass Super Synth, and I do regret passing it up, but I already have the Compressore on my board, and that takes up enough real estate as it is.
 
I'd love to grab a Digitech one but since they discontinued them second hand prices went nuts...

EDIT: I thought you were talking about the MXR Bass Pre.

The Bass Synth Wah is actually also mostly listing for around $125 US on Ebay.

I like the MXR Phase 90- the cursive script reissue or the 1974 model. I just haven't gotten the best results from chorusing or flanging. Mind you it's not something I use that often.
Do you bi-amp by chance? I've thought about doing that with a slight delay on one of the channels to create a subtle chorusing effect.

No, I don't bi-amp.

I use phaser, but more for funk tones. I like it a lot for slap. I use chorus mainly for playing pretty chord parts on the six-string bass.

If you're curious, you can hear me switch to chorus at 1:24 on this song. This is an MXR Stereo Chorus (running in mono, though). Trampoline, by Uneven Steven

Although not slapped, this is a good example of how I use phaser. Bass enters at 1:44. This is the Boss PH-3. I've since switched to the Source Audio Orbital Modulator. The Hamster, by Uneven Steven
