I find myself being influenced more by a band's general sound and style than specific individuals within it, but some of the (non-bass-playing) individuals whom I look up to in particular include:

John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
Joe Satriani
Micheal Akerfeld (Opeth)
The Amott Brothers (Arch Enemy)
Jon Schaffer (Iced Earth)

And last but by no means least, all of my bandmates - without them, I wouldn't be half the musician I am today, and I wouldn't be nearly as driven to go further.

i love when he says he plays "rhythm."

I also love to listen to music that is not sung in english, which i hear a lot of at work. I don't understand the words, but the vocals intrigue me because they aren't so much "vocals" in that context, but another layer of melody.
