New tubes for my TubePath

Probably you'll find this to be stupid but I'm thinking about changing the tubes of my Tubepah. I know that the Tubepath models use one EL84 and two ECC83 , so what I wanna know is what brand do you think is most suitable??

I want to change the tubes because I start to getting some hum noise comming out from the amp, already checked all cable connections and its all good also cleaned up the amp, vents.ect... And sometimes( seem to be more constant now ) I'm getting some microphony interference( sorry if I used the wrong terms to express myself :oops: )

Well feel free to express your opinion , even if it's only to say that this is only things I heard in my head ahaha , cause I tend to be very picky with gear :oops: :oops:
 
i just took my ampeg in for re-tube, and the guy seemed like a groove tube junky. see if those will work. also, apparently my ampeg was a fire hazard. :shock:

The trouble with tube amps is that they require maintenance of the tubes over time,unless you have a new Mark bass head that does the work for you.Rusty recently changed the tubes in his Tubepath for Sovteks I think it was.They're supposed to be a little better.Give him a PM & I'm sure he'd be glad to help you out.
 
I think you should have your title changed to Old Greg, and put you have a mangina in your sig. :D
 
Suggestion noted,then discarded.
Only 1 name change per customer.I've had my turn.
Now run along before I give a clip across the ear. :lol:
 
Hey Mr D,

You don't need to take to a professional you can do it by yourself...
The tubes on amp are like the strings on bass, different tubes will give you different sound...
I personally prefer JJ tubes, for a warm fat sound. And they are affordable too :-)
 
unfortunately, I've only used Fender and groove tube tubes in my (ex) tube amps, and they sounded fine. I'm not a tube sound expert, but I suppose as long as you don't get some cheap shit tubes you'll be okay. they are really easy to replace too. don't worry.
 
I'm not worried about replacing tubes since it seems pretty simple, almost like changing a light bulb also my dad works with electronics and stuff so there´ll be no problem.
My issue is really what brand is the best suitable, this is such a noob question but this is my first amp with tubes so I not thyat much into the Tube world, so I'm posting this question because I've heard people talking about tube brands that give you a really nice tubes with warm sound and other brands that simply made your sound suck.

By the way ,Florin you're talking about JJ tubes, where can I find them in European stores? I already seen some Sovtek and some Groove Tubes but only heard about the JJ's
 
Already found a shop here in Portugal that sells JJ tubes so I 'm gonna for it ehehe
Just a little question they have two kinds of EL84, one simple and other with gold pins, is it worth the price diference?
 
Hey Mr D, I don't know what to say... Buy them both, you'll need replacements anyway, and A/B them. And tell us what you think :-)
 
I recently changed the tubes in my tubepath. The EL84 was a sovtec and these can get very "microphonic". If you use the tube simulator in your amp, replace it. Sovtec valves are good, but can get microphonic prematurely.

I changed the other two with JJ tubes. These tubes are great & really define the warm bottom end, better than the chineese ones that come with the amp. Really easy to change them too. Just dont forget the two screws on the face panel of the amp! Ohh and unplug it first!! :roll:

I've also heard about Sovtecs getting microphonic prematurelly but I'll follow Florin's idea and I'll go for some JJ tubes the power and the pre ones.

Ahah I'll try to remember that( writing down on paper "unplug your amp when changing tubes ahahahah) but again I would save alot of money on hair gel ahahahha and even get some wicked lightning effect ahahah but then again my little wicks would became orphans :? though choice now :P :P
 
No need to unplug,just stand in a bucket of water.That'll fix the hair do. :lol:

If you really wanna get your hair so nicely chicks will beg you to sleep with them, piss on a electric fence ;)
