I bought a Musicman Steling HS back in 2006. I have been looking for a second bass since last summer. I kept trying Fenders and was really disappointed by the quality. I finally gave up on Fender and decided to order a bubinga Corvette. I have owned three Corvettes in the past. GC would never ship the Corvette so I cancelled the order and decided to be content with the Sterling.
I repeated the search a month ago. Starting with one of the new Fender American Series Precisions. At first, it looked good but then I started to notice issues. I went through three of them before giving up. This time I decided to order a Stingray to go with my Sterling.
So I was in GC the day after placing my order to just play around on the Stingrays. I was A/Bing it against a Sterling to see how different they would sound. FYI, they sounded fairly close. At the same time a guy was working a trade on some guitar for one of the Geddy Lee Fenders. He wanted to trade with them even. As I was walking out I saw this nice bubinga Corvette setting behind the counter. I asked to see it and realized that it was not a Corvette but a Thumb BO. The bass was in absolutely new condition. I asked if it was used? They said it was. I plugged it in and thorough checked it out. I then asked to see the gig bag. It was still up front at the check--in desk. Everything was in the bag unused and the bag even had the stickers on it. I think the guy just had it in storage. Even the gig bag was in perfect condition. They were asking $1,300 for what was an as new one in the box. I got them down to $1,150. Apparently the previous owner was give the bass by his father and barely used it. I wouldn't have traded it for a Geddy but to each his own. I walked out very happy. GC had it in their inventory for less than 20 minutes. I then had to cancel my Stingray order.
It's nice to have two different high quality brands available at GC, Musicman and Warwick! I love them both!
