Guys,

New member here. I hope to become a first time Warwick owner, but am having trouble evaluating a used Streamer Stage I. PLEASE HELP.

A local guitar shop has a Warwick Streamer Stage I - 5 string for sale. The serial number is B302 with a 92 underneath the first number, making me believe It's a 1992 model. It has the maple/bubinga 7 piece neck, Bartaloni pickups with a passive/active pull switch. It has a wenge fingerboard. The bass guru at the shop says their sticker on it is $4499.00 US (where they got this figure I don't know), but He'll offer it to me with a hardshell case for $3100.00 US. Is this a good deal?? I've played many basses in my research, and this one is the best by far (sound and playability), but I don't want to pay too much.

With the non-MEC pickups and the passive/active pull switch, it is making me believe this one may be a custom model...does that sound right?

The 5 string is in very good condition, with just a little of the gold plating rubbed off of the bridge from previous play.

Any help would greatly be appreciated. If no one knows a fair value off hand, some good places for me to find the answer would be awesome. I'm not opposed to doing the work myself, just a bit out of my element here.

If it's a custom shop, it should be signed on the back of the headstock by Hans Peter Wilfer, and the dealer should (although it may ofcourse have been lost through the years) have a certificate of authenticity from the Warwick Custom shop.
As far as I know, the active/passive switch is standard for many Warwicks.
About the pickups, they may have been changed. What brand is the pickup?
 
as far as a fair price, i could not comment having not seen the instrument. the price seems pretty high for me. i bought my '95 ss1 5 string off of ebay for 1200+shipping and it isn't in perfect condition but it is in very good condition. it also has barts in it as well. the push/pull knob is standard on a lot of warwick models including the ss1 5 strings, this engages/disengages the active preamp inside the instrument allowing you to play in passive and active mode if you wish. as far as the sound and playability is concerned you are correct. i love the sound and feel of my ss1, the barts are beautiful inside it! anyway, my opinion is that it's a little pricey and i might look elsewhere.

$3,100US is more than double what a used Streamer S 1 is worth.
This shop is having alend of you.
I wouldnt pay anymore than $1200US.& that's probably still too much.
Give it a miss,you can get 3 used Warwicks for that price.
 
the bartolinis used to come standard on them its stock, yeah 3100 is like a new one.

as nice as the vintage streamers are, thats too much, especially when you could get a new s1 like the other guys said.
 
I can hardly judge USA prices, but it seems way too expensive!

A picture of the neck would be interesting, I don't think I've ever seen a Maple/Bubinga 7 pieces neck.

BAck in 1992 Bartolini were still used as an option for 5 strings Stage 1's, and the push/pull for deactivating electronics is standard on active Warwicks since 1988
