Building your own Thumb exactly like the ones Warwick
builds would be a trademark/copyright infringement, it's
against the law, and you would have a lawsuit on your
hands from Warwick. Apart from that it's an insult asking
something like this on the official W forum.
Your alternatives would be:
1. Stop asking about this and continue enjoying the forum
2. Continue asking about this, and suffer the consequences
And why the heck would you even want to build your own
"Warwick Thumb", when noone does it better than Warwick
themselves? You can get a used one for a great price
ANYWHERE in the world, trust me.
I totally disagree with every point, save one. Some is
my personal perspective, but this is just fact: It is in
no way illegal to build, for yourself, the most exacting
handmade version of a Warwick [or anything else] ....
as long as you don't put the trademark on it. And you
can legally sell it later, as long as you describe it as
being a USED handbuilt clone.
OK that brings up the one point on which we DO agree.
You said "

ANYWHERE in the world, trust me." It's highly unlikely
that anyone could build a Wick cheaper than buying a
used one, especially considering Warwick's infamous
initial depreciation rate. Obviously he should just take
all the advice and buy used. But maybe he LIKES to
build stuff [and has knowledgeable help?].

On the personal disagreement level, I ask "Why should
he stop asking about a topic thaz
at least as inneressin
as many of the other threads around here?" .... and ....
"Just what
consequences do you imagine ?" .... and ....
"Where IS the insult ?" [cuz I can't find it]. What I do
find smacks of an indictment of heresy .... but since
I'm not baptised in the Church of Warwick, I again am
finding myself in personal disagreement.
Finally, since when is imitation not the sincerest form
of flattery, especially simple honest imitation, not
wholesale deceptive piracy ? What makes you think
no one can build a better Warwick than Warwick ?
Almost any mass produced product can be built at
least as good, often better, just by making fewer of
them at a time. This may not be as profitable, but
this is not about profit, it's about building your own
cuz you cannot afford to buy it factory made.
Now, beyond finally [yeah], I doubt that you even
know that your beloeved Warwicks trace back to
one man's decision to build for himself that which
he could not afford to buy as factory made. "What
goes around comes around" so this thread is just
so absolutely at home here on the Warwick forum.
