I'm wanting to put together a new bass rig and at this point I am still in the research and planning stage. Back in the '80's I ran a PreAmp/Power Amp type setup and my plans are to go back to something like that, and in fact I'm planning on taking it one step further. I'm planning on running two, possible three seperate PreAmps into either Crown or QSC power amp.
The basic concept... I will use one preamp (leaning towards a BBE BMAX-T) to run my bottom end, and another preamp (possibly a Tech 21 Sansamp RBI or RPM) for the top end. The third preamp (if I choose to use one) would act as a master controller of the other two preamps.
My thinking... I love a huge, clear/clean bottom end. I also generally like a clean/clear/crisp top end, however it is the mid/top end that I generally like to color; whether it be a little distortion or whatever. So I want the ability to setup my bottom end and top end seperatly. This setup should give me almost unlimited versatility. The third preamp, if I choose to use one, would be purely for minor tweaks to the overall sound mid-set or even mid-song, such as volume adjustment. So the third preamp, again if I use one, would need to be fairly transparent when everything is set flat and only needs minimal features.
So anyways, any comments, suggestions, and/or ideas will be greatfully appreciated. Thanks in advance.
