I need some help:
I got htis d-tuner yesterday:

I have not received it and I do not know if this one I bought or this one:

is the one that fits my Warwick.

could somebody help me out?
I have tried emailing the store and have not received any answers yet.

You can set your mind at ease because the one you bought, the GB-7 is the correct one that fits Warwick basses. I have those on all my 4-string Warwicks and I even have one on my 5-string Streamer Std.

They are great for church music, which has lots of opportunity for dropped D tuning.

just be careful when you install it, i accidently scratched the wood on mine when i installed it....

not on a warwick, you can get it to a D. the tuner spacing is too tight

The lowest it will go to on a Warwick is a D because the tight spacing on the headstock won't allow the mechanism to move any further, due to the G string tuner getting in the way.

If the tuners were a four-inline design, then you could get it to drop to low B...

But I also find that an E string detuned to low B doesn't sound right anyway. A low B really needs a thicker string to get the right tones and support. When using the D-Tuner to drop the E to a D, you have plenty of expanded usefulness from your 4-string.

thanks. what would happen if I get a B string in there. due to sacing it woul;d still go down to D right?
I am looking to at least C.

Well, just changing to a thicker "B" string will give you a different feel and tonality, but the D-Tuner will still be able to only drop one step, so if you tune the B string to E, it will still drop to a D, but with a different tone and feel. Not really a good idea IMO.

The only way you can get it to drop to low B is if you tune your bottom string to a low C first, or if you tune it to low D, then you can drop to a C. But there is no way to drop from an E to a B or C on a 3 per-side configured headstock unless you removed your G string and its tuner...

If you never use your G string, then I suppose you could put a B string on there and tune B-E-A-D, that way you'd have your low B, if you only play the lower notes and not so much chords...

I know a guy on a french forum that ordered a D-Tuner (Hipshot GB-7) for his new Streamer $$ and he said that he couldn't downtune to D, the lever was "blocked" by the G string tuner... He could only go down to Eb, not D...

Got any explanations dudes ?

G? The G tuner should be on the opposite end of the headstock...

Yeah, the G string... The tuner opposite to the D-Tuner.

This is very true. Sometimes the position of the E and the G tuners can be too close to each other on a Warwick headstock. On my Thumb NT, the spacing is so close that I almost can't drop to D - I was fortunate to barely get the room. But my other 4-strings have no problems with their D-Tuners at all.

The only solution is to try and reseat where the D-Tuner and maybe the G string tuner sit. There's not much play and the set screw will have to be re-drilled, but it's an easy fix if there's enough room to play with...

This is one area where it seems that humans must be drilling the tuning peg holes and not getting consistent spacing...

I don't necessarily mean to piggyback off this thread but, say I wanted 4 of these tuners to drop all 4 of my strings down a half step (or maybe all the way to D on the E string). Is that possibe? Is there enough room to install four of them and if so, do they work on all strings?

That seems an awful lot of trouble to go to when you can just get the note you want on the next lowest string. You only need the drop on the lowest string!

Not necessarily. Many of the songs by a band that I practice on regular basis use drop 1/2 step tuning and drop 1/2 plus Db tuning. That's why I ask.

In theroy, D-tuners would work on every string, but there won't be enough room. Atleast not on a Warwick...

I'm not sure if there would be enough room. As to if they would work, the answer is yes - Michael Manring actually does that on one of his basses, and he's learned to manage them all in the middle of his songs! I've got his DVD and it is almost too much to watch!

Gah, not enough room, even for half steps? That makes me sad.

Oh well, I'll probably grab one anyway because I would like to drop D easier.
