Need some adviced in trading my bass

I need other people adviced because I being thinking about this but I still don't know if I am doing the right thing. I currently have a 2004 4 strings FNA JAZZMAN LTD and I am thinking about trade it in for a 1990 Streamer 5 strings the bass is in great condition, he is asking my bass and plus $450 extra. I know the streamer run high in price so I was thinking it's ok, but I don't know, I need yours adviced on this deal. what you all think should I do?
 
Well I would say if its what you want then do it. Brand new price there is roughly a $1800.00 difference. But your bass is 14 years newer than his. Both are great bass guitars. If you are wanting to get into a five string then go for it. Are there any hard shell cases involved?

When I'm in your spot, it goes like this:

I'll sell this FNA-4 to anybody that hands
me $1500. That is my price I'm OK with.

Or I can pay $450 difference and trade
for that Streamer-5.

If I had the $1500 in my pocket from a
buyer of my FNA-4, would I consider the
$1950 Streamer-5 a good find ?

If "YES", then you go dood!

If "NO", would I buy the Streamer-5 if
it were, say $1800 ?

If "YES", am I willing to admit that the
reason no one bought my FNA is that in
the current market, I was $150 too high ?


That last question can be rephrased as
"Am I willing to go $150 extra to get this
thing done, cuz there were no buyers for
the FNA-4 and I wanna get movin ... ?"



Obviously, the numbers for that final
question, phrased either way, are up to
you, according to you situation(s). But
the idea, the "How do I feel" question,
remians the same, whatever numbers
happen to be involved.


 
I think 450 is a bit much for you to put in. If it was 300 I'd say it was fair. I'm pretty sure you'll be trading for my old streamer....!
 
As Golem says, the bottom line is how this deal makes you feel. Does this trade give you that warm fuzzy feeling? If so, then by all means go for it. If not, renegotiate or walk away. Because if you end up with a sour taste over the deal, it could negatively influence your opinion of the bass your getting in the deal and you may never be happy with it no matter how great an instrumet it might be. And wouldn't that be a shame to give up and instrument you love for one you may never be happy with. So again, bottom line, you have to be happy with the deal.

And IMO the fact your here asking us for our opinions, suggests your not happy about the deal and are looking for us to talk you into it, or confirm your feelings towards the deal. But that's just MHO.
 
Think about how much you paid for the bass how much extra he want's for his and is it worth that to you.If your not 100% happy with the deal don't do it.

I think Golem's reply (the first one, not the thing about a dentist :? ) is the best way to go about it. Think about how much you could sell your bass for, then decide how much you would want to spend on a streamer - do the maths and apply it to the deal being offered.

Having said that, you've been hesitating on this one for a while now, which probably means you'll regret it if you do go ahead and trade.
 
I wouldnt do it Otto.
If you do,$450 is excessive.A straight swap maybe more reasonable,but I wouldnt even consider that.The 2004 is imo,the most desirable of all the LTD editions.
Unless the LTD is letting you down &/or your losing sleep over not owning an SS1 5er,you should just let the whole thing go.I dont wanna sound disrespectful Otto,but are you 100% sure this isnt just bass trading for the sake of it?Kinda like retail therapy.

I agree with greg keep the bass.It won't be easy to replace if you want to get it again.Take your time save up the money and hunt down a good deal on a five string.And you can never have to many warwicks. :)

i was thinking about what you all say, and yes it's hard. you know if someone would had offer me $1500 I would had sold it but since no one actualy made any offers yet, I kind change a little bit in doing the trade. I talk to trujo777 about what he would think about the trade and out of the stuff we talk about and I am convince that I am going to trade it. yes it's hard to find one but it's also hard to find a streamer 1990, 5 strings, the last year of the hand made warwicks if i am correct. for me that is truhly a masterpiece, and as I did a little bit of reserch most of the streamers 5 strings are up in the $2000 range and they are a little bit hard to find below $2000 in a 5 strings and in good conditions, and if you find one below $2000 they sell fast. yes mine is a LTD but is funny how no one had made any offers, but you put a streamer and it sell like pancakes. I will take my chances and get the Streamer.

Hey forget what I said in the earlier post. If thats your bass on Craig's list(Texas) then don't trade it. Man that is way too nice of a axe to get rid of. Keep it!!!!!!!

Craig... that is indeed his bass.. this is an awesome axe and I am saddened he has to let it go. it sounds and looks amazing. if this was a 5 er I would have gotten it myself already.

I would be soooo happy with Otto if this bass would have ended here among family at the forum but no serious offers have come through. Otto fell in love with a Natural colored Spector I have and is almost ready to ship to Canada but he wants a 5 er streamer and has no more money to be able to keep the LTD AND buy the SS1 1990.

I have talke to Otto a lot about this bass and knows my opinion but as well as you guys I can not tell him trade it or don't trade it since it is ultimately His Decision and to live with its fruits or consequences whatever he reaps from this ordeal. :wink:
