Need a Bass Teacher...

Alright well I need a bass teacher if I want to get anywhere in the music industry and so I thought maybe someone here could give me lessons... (Warwick bassists = good bassists)

I'll pay real money on how much you want per whatever times (nothing ridiculous). Near the Saratoga CA region...

To be honest if I were you mate I would hit your local library or music store and get some self-teaching books. Some of them are very good, all the way from how to hold and string your bass up to chords and scales etc. Not sure what you are after, but these might help:

This is for absolute beginners - It literally just goes through holding and looking after the bass and how to press down the frets:

Something like this would be better for slightly more advanced. What you really want to ensure is that any book you buy has both notation AND tab. Even if your not that interested in playing blues you'll be surprised how many rock bands use the blues scales in much of their music.

If you're really after a teacher than check your local directory for professional teachers, they'll get you in to shape and taking exams before you know it!

I think you'll be better to check locally... try music shops (you may have to ask... they might keep a list) or libraries, or try the internet.
Be absolutely clear on what you want to achieve with your teacher before you start and look for another teacher if you don't think you have the same aims. But also be aware of new possibilities that might broaden your horizons.... try learning and playing in different genres.

I've found that regular lessons have really helped me progress - partly because it's a source of new ideas etc, and partly from the discipline (it's kind of embarrassing to turn up to your teacher if you haven't done any practice!).

Having said that, I've found that a lesson every 2 (or sometimes 3) weeks is enough to keep me going. I suspect if I had the time to play more, though, then more frequent lessons would be useful.

I recommend getting a good teacher! Find someone that plays well and is involved on the music scene...
 
Hey Ramaq - how long have you been playing? Are there particular things you want to learn or have you plateaued in your current playing?

Depending on where you are in your journey - you might find that self help DVDs, books, online courses could help...or you may be right and a bass tutor could be the way to go.

Hey thanks for all the help! At least I know that if something fails I can get some other options!

Hey lex, I've seen you play on youtube... Mind if I get a lesson? :D

Btw I've been playing for around 3 years with only two teachers... but not that long. Mostly self-taught...
