My next Warwick??

I'm pretty new to the Warwick fraternity, since I've only had my Corvette Proline for about a month. Pretty fantastic bass, and it's got me thinking that another Warwick would be cool. My budget dictates used, unless I buy a Corvette Standard Ash, and even that might be a stretch. The Fortresses look pretty attractive to me, but I've never played one.

So I guess my criteria are:
-Under $1000 usd
-lightweight (under 10 lbs, preferably under 9)
-wenge or ovangkol neck.

Every once in a while, I see a used Thumb BO in that range, but I think I'm mostly looking at Corvettes and Fortresses. The only Fortresses I know of are the One and Masterman, but they both look pretty cool to me.

What do you think?
 
Well,

the desire to have a bass that's lightweight is ok. But eventually, you have to like the sound as well. I guess a lightweight Warwick for under 1000 US $ would indeed be the Corvette Ash Standard. The Streamer $$ (award winner !!) is also faily lightweight, but it's going to be very difficult to find one used for under 1K I think.............I'd suggest to test drive the Corvette Ash Standard. :D
 
The Fortresses are great basses. I've got 3 different models of them.
They balance really well compared to my Thumb. Easier to play for long periods. I definetely play the Forts more often than the Thumb although I wouldt give up the Thumb for anything.
 
You should be able to find a really nice Fortress One or Masterman on eBay for well under your target price. If it were me, I'd lean toward the Masterman as that twin-J p/u really gives a lot of tone options. The Fortress balances perfectly, and Ones/MMs all have wenge necks since they went out of production in '99.

The thumb b/o is a sweet bass as well. I'd recommend playing one if possible to ensure it feels good to you and that you like the tone. I have a NT thumb, and between my Fortress and Thumb the tone is very different.

Another option for you - I got my '03 Streamer LX 5 on eBay for under $700. It's a sweet bass and they pop up pretty regularly as well.

Agree with Thumb and Fortress. There is a Fortress honey violin sweet looking 4 stringer on the for sale section at $650 USD plus ship. If i had the money I would buy it but I can't right now. take a look. There are other very good basses in there as well in that price range. good luck with the hunt.

You can't go wromg with Thumbs or Fortresses.
