My New Amp

Just got a Genz-Benz Shuttle 3.0-10T combo amp today. It is 175W into a 10" and tweeter and with an extension cab, it will do 300W, yet the whole thing weighs only 18lbs. and the head can be detached for use with other cabs if so desired! The sound is HUGE and RICH; I call it the 18 pound "giant."

The reason I got this is because I'm now fully involved in playing special music with our church choir, but they practice in a separate choir room, and I find myself having to haul my amp to and from church, and from the main sanctuary to the choir room, and back again each week. Since I have been using my old Behringer BX1200, I have had to haul around its 50lbs., and the tone was fine for congregational singing, but definitely not for choir productions! Therefore, this new Genz-Benz Shuttle is a true "blessing," especially all I've been through this past couple of weeks! Here's a couple pics of my Thumb NT leaning against the Shuttle (angled with its kickstand, and flat) for an idea of the Shuttle's size:

Well, it all starts with the Thumb! :lol: I added two more pics to give a better idea of the amp as well. Indeed, "sexy" is the appropriate description for this micro-wonder. It isn't as loud as my SWR Mo' Bass rig, but it's not far from it and yet it's such a tiny and lightweight package. I'll be able to carry my bass and my amp at the same time with no straining!

The other cool thing is, Dennis, owner of The Bass Place, where I got the amp, threw in a 10' Elixer instrument cable, a Fender guitar cleaning kit, the new issue of Bass Player Magazine, a 5-string set of Black Label strings, and a Warwick hat, a $110.00 value according to the price tags, all for free!

Recovery's goin' well, several more doctor appointments, and the bills are starting to come in, so I have to get everything squared away with my health insurance company. My boss called today and said he'll get me the paperwork for medical leave of absence and he told me everyone has been asking about me and they're keeping things ready for when I return to work. That's the good news I wanted to hear from my boss! Nothin' like jobs where they fire you 'cuz you're out too long... My company allows a 6-month leave and mine should only last about 6-8 weeks. So all is well and a new micro-amp along with a great Warwick family of basses, is keeping me real happy! :D

Looks great man, some of those well made mini amps are the bomb. I love my Workingman's 10, and never pull any other amp out.
 
This little thing handles the low B on my Streamer Std. with Bartolini preamp and my $$ with sub-zero dropping Kahler whammy and stays clean, fat, low, and powerful! Really preserves the growl of my Thumb NT and sounds beautifly natural with my fretless Dirty Blonde and Corvette Std. The best "micro" amp there is, and only 18lbs!
 
I just love solid state. And this amp shows everything that's good in this technology.
 
I wish they still made the extension cab for the SWR, but the ones I see are set at such a ridiculous premium there's no way. That is a great sounding amp. It too will handle a low B without so much as burping.

My friend at work has that Workingman's 1x10 combo and likes it - uses it as a lightweight amp for practice at his church... I used to have the WorkingPro 700 head before I settled on my Mo' Bass head. The Workingman's and WorkingPro series, while being "budget" lines for SWR, are actually very nice stuff!

The 3.0-10T combo sells anywhere from $700-$800 USD, depending on the dealer, and I think I've seen the extension cab for around $500-$550.
 
Great stuff maddrakkett, looks cool. I'm going in the same direction. Small but loud and 100% solid state.

I went for Markbass F1 but I'm still lurking around for a compact cab. Probably a Tecamp 212.

Indeed! I put money down to hold it and was going to pick it up on the 21st so I could have it for our Easter presentation - then I ended up in the hospital and had to stay in bed when the 21st came. I'm still not allowed to drive a vehicle, so I had to wait until after Easter to get a ride from my dad to pick up the amp.

Talk about getting all antsy with GAS! Now I'm playing with my new toy each day instead of resting and healing... :lol:

My complete story is posted here in the Caffe - titled "I'm in the Hospital this Weekend." I actually ended up being there for a whole week. It started with chest pains and ended with angioplasty (stent to open a main artery to the heart) and a pacemaker being put in me. I'm off for at least a month and have other tests that are being looked at - one for low white cells, one for anemia, and a sleep study is to be scheduled as well.

Funny thing is, I'm still a young 43 with no family history of heart trouble. I eat fairly healthy, I don't smoke or drink, my cholesterol looked good... No answers as to why I had an 80% blockage in my artery or why my heart stopped twice, once for 12 seconds and once for 25 seconds!

Keep me in your prayers.
 
Just had my first rehearsal with the new amp at my church today, and it was a raging success! Way better tone and LOUD! We have a fairly big sanctuary with about 180 people, and I don't need to turn up past half and don't need to use the D.I.

The music director/worship leader was blown away and impressed at the amount of powerful, quality tone coming out of such a small, light box!

It's always good when new gear actually works out! :D

Tomorrow, I'll report how it does when the room is full...
