Yes sir, like ciggie smoke, real bad. Any suggestions for removing a smoke small from a bass? It's honey violin satin. Even the firkin' neck stinks. Yes that lovely wenge reeks like a London Underground men's room. It's been cleaned, body with Pledge Multi Surface and the neck waxed. It's so bad it's unpleasant to play. Any ideas greatly appreciated. I'm even thinking of stooping to Martha Stewart and hitting the thing with Febreeze.
 
that's horrible! i hate the smell of cig smoke. I have no idea what to do, but I hope you get this taken care of.
 
Just leave it in a ventilated area when it's not in use. Don't keep it in the case. The smoke smell will desapear even if will take some time. Rubbing the bass with cleaner and wax will speed up the process.

I had the same with a corvette standard which I borrowed a while ago. The smell disapeared after a couple of weeks.
 
you should hide the cigarettes from your Fortress :lol: if it doesn't stop smoking - buy some nicotine patches :lol:

on a more serious note - Patrik is probably right :D
 
Letting it air out will help a ton... Also wiping it down with rubbing alcohol will work great.
 
As Patrik says: leave it outside the bag.

By the way, if the bag/case smells inside, the smell will take almost 100 years to disappear.
I'd consider replacing it.
 
Haha, taken in context of the thread header...

....if you don`t clean out of your fortress too often, it will eventually begin to smell. :wink:

Sprinkle some pot pourrie in it's cavity & a dab of frangipanny oil behind the neck. :idea:

This happened witht eh Thumb 5 BO I just got 2 weeks ago. I did not perceive the smell until 3 days ago that i pulled it oyu of the bag. I wasked the Warwick gig bag in the soft cycle on my washer and put double fabric softener (Downy) It did get rid of the smell and the velevet inside is so comfy now.... :D

Also what i did to the body was to first clean it up with lemon oil (I do this with all my basses) then i used the Howard feed N wax to clean it up again (after the lemon oil had dryed up so this was the next day) and then the third day i used Warwixk wax and the smell is now gone.

I also used a can or canned air to blow into the pick ups and elec cavity and get rid of any particle there.

it worked great and I finally took it to my church last night and man this is a beast.!!!

I suspect, as has already been mentioned, that the gigbag/case is re-infecting the bass with the smell. I'd consider a new bag... or why not try "shake'n'vac" - it "puts the freshness back" (other products are available)

After years of gigging in smelly old Working Mens' Clubs, I put my sax away in it's case 7 years ago (just before I took up the bass)... and it still absolutely ronks now! How can a sax smell of ciggie smoke when it's made out of brass? Must be the case!
 
I had glasses before, and when I kept them in the case (Yea, I never really used them :P ) they got very smelly. I figure it is the same thing.
 
Another reason why I do not smoke anymore.

the smell clings and it is hard to get rid of.
 
I actually put it in a new case when I got it. One I already had, but bought new for the RB Fortress, but it wouldn't quite fit. The Wick Fortress will due to the flush mount straplocks.

I'm limited to keeping the bass out due to having nowhere four footed monsters couldn't get to it and potentially knock it off. I'm thinking I might Febreeze the case then keep the bass in it. If Martha endorses it it has to be good right. One of the housekeepers suggested putting a dryer sheet in the case.
 
Doog, if you have the space, get wall hangers. If you have Spider-Cats, go for a hercules wall hanger, not too expensive and they will hold on to your bass in hurricanes and earthquakes, if that's an issue where you live :)
 
dump the bag. You'll never get the smell out. Let the bass stand in a well ventilated room and rub it down with a light coat of lemon oil. Try to avoid sealing it in a bag or case for long periods of time until you're sure the smell is gone.
