I recently picked up my first Warwick. A 1997 Corvette Standard 4 string. It was a great deal, however, it is in serious need of a good setup. The action is quite high, the neck has a bit too much bow, there is fret buzz when playing on the higher frets (12+) and it's purple.

Any setup tips or suggestion would be appreciated.

Also, are there any recommendations regarding the purple finish? I believe it is a Swamp Ash body. I prefer the natural finish and would like to know if it is worth pursuing the stripping of the finish and having it re-stained. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

There is tons of setup information down in the
"Tips and Tricks" forum I believe. First thing I
read when I got here to be honest, gave me
the perfect setup.

As far as refinishing, if you know what you're
doing as far as blocking and and all, why not
go for it.

And WELCOME to the forum man!

Aha! So you're the guy that bagged that corvette off ebay?
If it was you, i have to say, nice work! looks very nice.

Also, as for the refinish, you'll have a hell of a job stripping back the stain and getting it down to pure wood. If you think you can do it, then go for it, but it will be a tough job.

I'll post some pics when I get home tonight.

As for the finish, it isn't a stain, it is purple paint. So I am hoping it will be easier to remove than a stain would.

Are you sure about that? Is it a high gloss finish?
 
If it's paint, then it'll be harder to remove, and
you need to read up on removing paint from a
guitar if you've never done it before.
(It can be quite daunting.)

As you can see it is not a stain, I guess this would be the glossy finish, but it is most definitely paint of some sort.

Also, the pics are a bit deceiving, the color is really purple, not blue.

Thoughts?

Well, as I stated earlier, if you're able to dedicate
the time and touch to stripping a painted guitar of
it's color, then by all means go at it.

Just make sure you know what you're doing, don't
go blasting the thing with media, lol.
 
Nooo! Please, leave it this way :-) I love the color, I guess it is custom made.

yeah, i would say the same !

there are so many bare wood corvettes out there..... why strip the paint off this one ?

if you don't like the color, you can get quite some money for a special corvette like this, and buy a normal corvette.

+1 love the color. seems to be custom.
 
Don't strip it man... leave it as is
 
Wenge neck and fretboard w/ brass frets.

I was told that the color is Blue Solid HighPolish. Although in person it really does look purple.

I decided to heed your advice and not strip it. Of course that means I'll have to get another vette to appease my yearning for a natural look and oil finish :)
