hi i own a warwick thumb 5 string!
and because i havent played in a while so i messed u p the electronics of my warwick
it was one of those with the mec
but it has the wood that is now ovaknol the other one
but it was the "nut2"

i want to know what do i need
i dont know the pickups yet i will go with emg or basslines


what i really need to know is the pream wichone will be best for this bass? because of the number of wholes on the bass...

so?
any recomendations?
what do you guys put to this type of instrument to make it better...???
 
You will get many recommendations for what is best, we are all different and hear different tones in our head so use different means to get it. You can put in many brands of preamps but if you are after a specific sound it would be best to tell us the style of music you normally play, which bassist you most closely like the sound of or which track/song you like the bass tone of.

In my Warwick basses I have had MEC, Bartolini, EMG, Glockenklang, Aguilar to name just a few but oddly enough my basses still end up sounding like a Warwick! :lol:
 
yeah but i need a recomendation
like "if you gonna go with basslines you should get the aguilar preamp"
or something like that
i want to og emgs but i dont know what to do
i will rather some one recommend me a setup

OK here you go, I'd go for Bartolini pups and a Glockenklang 2 band preamp!

and why 2 bands...you personal preference? do you have all your basses setup in that way?

in the beggining warwick carry the emgs... who like the old sound of warwick...
i think basses are like dogs...all of them have their personality...
the pickups are the collar

I have a preference for 2 band because I prefer it when there is 'less' for me to mess about with; I crank the bass and treble up and then set my tone (inc mid) on the amp and don't feel the need for a mid control on the bass; the Glock preamp (even when cranked) is very musical. My other Warwicks have a variety of preamps basically whatever came with the bass including early EMG and they are simply different from the MEC, Bartolini etc. but I couldn't say better, just different. I don't believe that the old sound of Warwick had much to do with the early EMG pups and preamps as they had lots of different pups/preamps in early basses and they still all retained the characteristic 'Sound Of Wood'... the sound came from the basses themselves (IMHO).

Just out of interest who would the experts be...? LOL
 
i found as i grow older i set my controls flat mabey a touch of bass mostly get my sound from the amp set up. i have emgs and there ok.i like barts better, and a bart pup preamp combo sounds good i have passive sd's and i like them another good choice going back all mec is also good.i found it's hard to recomend pups and preamps cause as we know everyone has different taste as to what they like.but what i have found is the sound you get a home doesn't allways sound good with the band.i have been trying to get a good overall sound with the drum kit and let every one else fit it.the keyboard player likes the sound when we play the tape back so i guess it's working.

i want the opinions of the people that knows what do they want...
and by "experts" i wasnt refering to the reaaalllly experts but to the smart ass trolls that think that they know it all! THEY ARE IN ALL THE FORUMS ABOUT ANYTHING i just call them experts...

and try to have "the same configuration" but diffrerent preamp
right now i already going with the basslines

so you like bartolinis... i know is hard to recommend but what preamp will be the most versatile
 
i have a bart two band and barts in a ibanez i got the bass that way so i'm not sure exactly what is what but it makes a cheaper ibanez sound good a little warm and solid not to much of the pinging kind of sound.my next set up might be sd blackouts and preamp.but i tend to like to keep the preamp to pups the same,my thought is the makers allready tested out there stuff and trere woun't be any strange problems poping up and if you need tech help it is easyer to get.

i probably gonna get the 3 band because that iw what has on a regular thumb...

i like wooten sound... claypool, the guy from level 42, 311... zenden, all the 70s with good basslines

i like the sound of a thick but yet clear tone

what i meant with the 3 amp eq
is because that is what the holes in the bass are for
you know what i mean?
like... i dont want to change the "on stock" order of the buttons... and all that
i dont know where to buy or anything

i would like to have the emgs because i like wooten claypool and the sd becauase of pnut from 311...
you can make all basses especially this one sound old and
with the preamp i will like to sound like flea or like primus or like...311 or pastorius

Why you don/t check the SD website. In 3 minutes you find exactly what you need. It is faster than waiting for an answer here.

If you check Warwick Basses Amps & Rock&Roll - you see a "support" page, and you will find there all the diagrams. Again, this is quicker and better solution :-)

Could you check EMG site before asking that here? It takes 30 seconds, and you see if you find or not pickups for 5 stringers.



My point is... in this moment you need to put some order in your thoughts, and narrow the question, and then come with some good and pertinent qustions and then we will help you :-) You cannot register here only to ask if EMG make 5 strings pickups..

P.S. - it is not my fault, Alexandre got me in this mood.
