MEC or Quarter Pound?
Well quarter pound is more a type of pickup not so much a brand. I've only played the quarter pounders and don't actually own a bass with it but I can tell you they're freakin cool sounding. Ballsy, and clear without being sharp. I played them in a Fender Jazz bass.
MEC's are also fantastic sounding to me. While some may not like it I actually enjoy the dry quality they give my warwick. My corvette is passive with two j's but has no problem being slapped around.
It will depend if your washburn is active or passive. The Fender I played was active.
Personally I don't think you could go wrong with either. But if you buy the QP's and don't like them please PM me
I also have heard but cannot confidently agree that MEC's adapt more to the wood your bass is made out of

I think that may be fair to said. but like you its hard to tell for sure without play alot of basses to find out.
I have played a few basses with the QP pups and most sound good.
but I did find one that just ,,well sounded like raw farts with QP pup. it was a Squire P bass with QP's. its was just god aweful....

my Washburn is passive.. I'm looking for a nice funkish sound with a lot of mids, do you think MECs or QPounders could get me that? my bet according to the data provided on the net would be MECs.. (also, the body of my bass has low quality mahogany, if that's of any help..)

I'm kind of leaning toward the QP's if it's a funkish sound you're looking for.

Idk if typical is the right word and I don't mean it in a bad way at all, but I feel like it's a tone we've all heard and want in different ways if that makes sense.
When I think funk I think fat bottom that cuts through with gritty treble. Very "single coil." While the MEC's don't have as much of that grit, that JUN, JUN, JUN (that probably makes no sense, but I gave it a shot).
Also the QP's are way hotter than the MEC's if that's a factor important to you

heh, I mostly figured out what you wanted to say
hotness is not too important (but leans to less is better), but I get the overall tonal picture.. the only thing I'm concerned with is the lack of mids on the QPs (I used to base my funkness on the mids) and the passive electronic on my bass...
