Making my 4 string corvette to J/MM?

I was looking to do abit of modding on the body to installed set of MM pickup to replace the bridge jazz pickup so the bass will be J/MM setup.

One problem i can think of is will the single coil pickup hum alot if i blend the sound more towards the neck or use the neck pup fully.
 
Could be interesting, i'd say go for it. Just realise it will prob affect resale value, but I would still give it a shot. Pics are a must too!!
 
you are right: there will be a problem with hum.
BUT:
there are plenty of basses with single coils, and hum really isn't that much of a problem

ANOTHER BUT:
if you wan't to avoid it, you have to install a neckpickup, that is an in-line humbucker in the housing of a singlecoil. will look the same, will sound the same, but there is no hum.
i know that bartolini makes them, and delano (i would go for delano, because cheap but may be better sounding)
 
That's a pretty advanced mod you're talking about.............I would only do that on a cheap bass........... :roll:
 
I using Delano Jazz set on my corvette at the moment and the low mid sound i getting is fantastic. I have this thinking because i have a set of Delano MM MC4 FE spare in my room which i pretty good, so i want to pair it to my corvette for even more growl.

Delano pickup are good on warwick, not much people put on but they are fantastic pickup.
 
but check the length !!

the single coil is much longer than the humbucker.
there will be a whole in the top. if you don't fill it up, it's going to look stupid, and maybe feel bad for the right hand.

if you are going to fill it up, then HOW and with what wood ?

I just did a check online and iuserneim is right: The MEC bridge pup is 95mm wide, but the Delano MC 4 FE is only 89mm wide! That's a full 6mm of difference that will have to be filled in or covered with a custom mounting ring...

well he could fill the left over hole with similar wood thought this would be difficult, the mounting ring sounds easier, good thinking maddrakkett
