Is there a reason Warwick doesn't use Mahogany on their basses?
As a bodywood on a Corvette, with a maple top, that would look awesome!
 
Probably weight. I belive that Wenge is also similar to Mahogany tone wise if i remember correctly.
 
Somehow,

I think of a really warm sound when people mention Mahogany as a body wood...............
 
My Wal basses all have mahogany body cores with maple top and bottom. It's very heavy, but sounds amazing. I've been considering a custom shop $$ along those lines...

My K5 has a mahogany core sandwiched inside two piece of padauk, and a mahogany / padauk neck. It's not that heavy, but it's got an interesting warm sound. I like it.

I've been dreaming of a CS with a mahogany back and birch top. I got a quote and it was more than I wanted to spend though- most likey the birch is to blame for the high price, you think?

Uhhhh, from what I know:

new K5: Mahogany body, Maple/Bubinga neck, Rosewood fretboard
old K5: Mahogany body core with Padauk top and back, Wenge/Bubinga neck, Rosewood board
your K5: are you sure about the neck ?? :?

5 piece wenge walnut. That sounds about right. think I'm overworked and my brain is melting away...
 
i cant think of mahogany without thinking of the stryker. mahogany body with ziricote top and back :D awsome combination :twisted:
 
Since we're talking Mahogany...............and Wenge/Bubinga necks.........

Ibanez has got a 20th anniversary bass, the SR20th, which is made in Japan like in the old days.........it's gorgeous...............too bad I can't place a picture right now, because photobucket isn't working properly.......... :roll:
 
jhust find it on the internet, right click and click on properties the URLs there. pics already on the internet dont need to be put on photobucket as they're already being hosted somewhere
 
Stroud................dude..............you're a genious !!! Anyway, the picture is a bit odd: it's like a three piece puzzle, therefore it's not one picture............difficult to explain.................anyway, you get the impression what the bass looks like. I don't see no difference between the SR3005 bass and this one...................
 
Well, there IS a stryker mahogany...


And it's about 1000 euros less than the other versions of the beast...

Just sayin'

The mahogany Stryker is about half the price of a ziricote model mate. :wink:

Concerning Wals or a CS? The CS would have to be a mahogany body with a birdseye maple top...

Yeah, I meant the Warwick CS. :wink: So you want to have a sound somewhat similar to your Wal ?? Like maybe even going for a CS Maple neck with a very exclusive (at least for Warwick, for any other brand it's standard) Rosewood fretboard ?? Would be interesting though.......... :D

The Infinity NT features a rosewood fingerboard.
 
Exactly. A Wal-ish tone with Warwick playability... perfection!

But I think I'd go with an ebony fretboard, I'm not a big Rosewood fan - it just feels "slow"...

Yeah, I had the 2002 LTD. with the Rosewood F/B...
