I've seen print ads from the '80's of an early Thumb 5 with unusual pickups. I've searched the forum for info but can't seem to find any. I'm looking for information on this / theese basses, with the hope of acquiring one. Any information would be appreciated.

I'm not sure but I think the earliest Thumb 4's date to 1985, and the Thumb 5's a little later -- but nailing down these details is very important to me. Thanks in advance.

The Thumb 5 was introduced in 1986

Do you have a picture of the Thumb with odd pickups?

I don't -- at least I can't seem to find it. If I remember correctly, from a distance, they look like old JayDee Bass pickups -- they have alternating light and dark stripes running length-wise across the length of the pickups. I also believe it was a fretless. It appeared in some print ads. Maybe someone has a copy they can scan.

I found a photo of it already on the forum under

Warwick Thumb Advert, Interesting Bass.

It turns out I was wrong -- it's not a fretless, and it has bladed humbuckers.

Any ideas where one might be hiding?

Wow -- seriously?

As I am in the US, I used mapquest to find Markneukirchen on the map. Is it in a shop? Do you have any info?

Sorry mate, that was an attempt at humour. What I should've said was there's one at the Warwick factory, that's in Markneukirchen in Germany.I dont think it's for sale but you could email Hans Peter for more info & pics.
Best of luck mate & keep us informed how ya go & lastly, welcome. This is a great forum,I'm sure I'll be seeing you again.
Cheers dude.
btw, could you post some pics of your Thumb collection please? It looks very impressive.
btw again. This 86 JD Thumb is on ebay right now in case your interested.

I thought so -- I'm new to this so I'm not hot on every detail yet. I'll get smarter ... I figured the Warwick "vault" would have one, and as I sent my last email, I thought "I wonder if this is a joke."

How would I get an email to Hans Peter or one of his people?
