Oh yeah! I'm going to restart playing bass today! After more than one year without touching a bass, today I'm going to pick up my new Streamer Stage 1.

Through my "bass career" ( :P ) I've never used effects pedals. I was always a bit against them, but now something is ringing in order for me to buy some and develop a true original sound.

So... what effects pedals do you use?! What are the MOST HAVE pedals in the market? When do you use your pedals?!

People... speak out!!! :)

I've been looking for an envelope filter. My choices are between 'Electro Harmonix QTron' and 'EBS BassIQ'. What would you choose, and why?! Is there any other good envelope filter for bass?

And... what do you think about Moog pedals?!

Yeah... i know. Too many questions, but I have the need to see them all answered!!! :lol: :lol:

I think it would help if you said what type of music you play. I'd love an envelope filter - but I'd just never use it in my current band.

I was thinking of getting an overdrive/distortion - but the sound from my $$ is so outrageous - I just don't need one! I switch the buckers to parallel mode when I really want to go over the top (which is most of the time)

I do have a (Boss) Chorus pedal, though - surprising how often it comes in useful! I also have an Aphex compressor and bass exciter - but I don't count these as effects pedals - more of an off-board pre-amp
 
If the envelope filter floats your boat, EBS really does make a fantastic one; in fact, everything I've ever played by EBS is pretty awesome.... I just don't use effects in my solo shows aside from my loop pedal.

As a sideman, I've used plenty though, and as far as bass overdrive goes, I'd go with either an Ibanez Tube Screamer (yes; the guitar pedal) or if you're into super-saturated-sounds, a BIG MUFF pedal. I'd recommend using either of them only in conjunction with a splitter... if you run your whole signal through any overdrive pedal, you're going to lose some of your lows to get any real bite... I'd recommend splitting the signal into two different amps and only letting frequencies above 800 Hz go through the overdrive... all the low end should be fat and clean. It'll sound HUGE.
 
This is what I use, I'm sponsored by EBS but I would have use it anyway. However I use less and less effects and let the bass talk for itself. The MicroBass II is great when using two basses or as a preamp fir the DI. Use the compressor for slap and some chorus and reverb especially for the fretless playing / mats
 
I agree with Mats on the chorus and reverb for fretless, makes it sound bigger and warmer... :D.
 
Totally. Its also sounds killer with a distortion of some form in front of it.

I just recently picked up the EBS chorus and 'verb pedals and they are brilliant. I haven't got a pic with them in my board yet sadly.

It kinda goes something like this though.

Bass into volume pedal > Zoom UF01 (old analog fuzz they used to make. Really really good) > MXR M80 DI+ > Morley pro series bass wah (then signal goes into Boggs Loooper which has EHX Micro synth, EBS Chorus, EBS verb and Digitech whammy. These can all be switched in and out or the lot can be master bypassed with one switch) > Boss DD20 Delay > Amp

This set up allows me to get very usable sounds but also allows me to make crazy noise. I have a lot of fun with it. :D

umm... Mats? We gotta talk. Looking at that picture made me feel sort of funny inside... it was like the first time I ever saw a picture of a woman in a bikini. That pedal board is AMAZING.... does EBS sell that whole set up as a package? :shock:

HaHa, well, if you ask them very nicely they'll build you one. It's great because you have to snap locks on so it becomes a nice looking brief case. I prefer this kind of pedals instead of the multi ones that you have to program. Because I cannot use my feet I have to knock them on and off with my hand so sometimes there is a minor blood bath :? but it's so much easier than changing "banks" etc. And, not to forget, their pedals are darn good. If you want me to, I can check the price. Cheers / mats

Forgot to say that you can order just the box with all the connectors, plugs and stuff, don't know the price, they just refer to "custom order"

I'm using Digitech multi-effects at the moment, and there pretty handy.
But there's nothing like the classic individual effects. I've heard that the EBS Bass IQ is one of the best and easiest to use envelope filters out there.

There is one that Chunk Systems in Australia offers called "Agent 00 Funk" that is supposed to be a great envelope filter that ranks right up there with the Mu-Tron, Meatball and Bass IQ. But Agent 00 Funk runs somewhere around $300.00 U.S., and is pretty complex.

'Sounds like the guys here like the EBS, so that might be way to fly.
 
Hello people, and hello wahit, i'm portuguese, so 'im going to speak something in our language, i have three pedals at the moment, all from Boss, a TU-2, Bass Eq7, and a BLUES DRIVER.

Boas, ainda estou a aprender a usá-los, mas confesso que outras marcas estão ainda pouco representadas no nosso pais. Estamos muito atras nesse aspecto, em relação a outros paises. E o preço então nem se fala. Por isso, Wahit, não há nada melhor do que "chateares" muita gente, no bom sentido, e so ao conseguires experimentá-los, é que poderás ter uma ideia mais clara. E pensa principalmente na sonoridade que pretendes ter, e no estilo musical que mais gostas e que tocas.

I'm currently running my rig as follows:
Bass = Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner = Sansamp Programmable Bass DI = Line 6 Space Chorus = GK.

I'm about to sell some of this and run my rig like this:
Bass = EBS Verb = EBS Unichorus = PJB Briefcase.
 
Hey people, I am thinking about buying a great kickback combo I recently came across, for use as a monitor and also as a main amp in small clubs. However it does not have an effects loop. Is that a must for properly using all those nice EBS pedals?
 
I find effects very amusing when playing alone w/out the band. Its more fun to rehearse then.
 
I use a Boss RC-50 Loop Station (not really effects, but still fun) and every now and then i will use the Boss ME-50B but i only use that at home really.

The Boss RC-50 Loop Station Is amazing!!! I record loops and compile them and send them to my computer through a usb plug. I have like 2 gig's of loops that i have saved on my computer. And when i want to use one of them i can stick it back on the pedal.

Although i am very partial to Mats EBS pedal setup. It is very clean and neat. I'll take one. 8)

That's quite obvious but then you 'd have to wonder why amps come with effect loops on them. About the combo I'm about to get, there's a cheaper model from the same brand that actually has an effect loop.
Go figure...

You can also use the effects out to go from your pre-amp to a separate power amp... or the effects in to take an input from a separate pre-amp to your power amp (by-passing your amps eq) - I suppose they just add to the options!
 
Yes, with a loop you can sometimes run it in a serial or parallell mode and before and after the preamp but also set the mix. When you run it in series from the instrument straight through the input you will have 100% of the dialed effect but through the loop you can sometimes adjust the mix so e g you have 50% of the effect mixed in / mats
 
i use a BOSS ME-8B.... great programmable pedal


i like to mainly use an octaver, envelope and some synth stuff... maybe a bit of fuzz every now and then... i like it because you can blend any of the effects together and control the volume of both the processed and dry bass sound so you don't lost the bottom end.

The usual rule is rack effects in the loop, stomp boxes before the input. I could well be wrong, but most loops are line level with too high a signal for pedals. In most cases the loop is just like placing effects between the preamp and poweramp if you were to run that style setup. Some preamps have send and return level controls for the loop, like Demeter for example :D
