lemon oil?

hi, i run out of beeswax, temporarily i use lemon oil (u.s. brand:d'andrea). can lemon oil resist moist? because moist are very plenty here in my current gig, i play reggae at the tropical; boracay island paradise. :(
 
Yo beatriz,long time no post mate,what were ya going to apply the lemon oil to?the fingerboard I hope.IMO the pure essential lemon oil is best. :wink:

Please do not apply lemon oil to the body of your bass. Wait for the new tin of wax to get there. You don't need to wax it everyday so I think you should be fine if you wait. Applying the oil to the fingerboard is advisable.
 
ei guys, its been long, a bit busy i guess.

i dont apply lemon oil on the body cuz it is coated w/ satin PLY i guess, quite protected from moist, my problem is the accumulation of moist in the neck, it is oil finished and i can feel the presense of moist everytime it rains. that's why i'm hoping if i apply lemon oil both on fingerboard & on the neck its will stay dry. i hope its the right thing to do while i'm waiting my beeswax from the states, i'm afraid it will take long cuz U.S.airport security nowadays doesnt allow such thing on the plane. please advise. :cry:
 
Usually the oils from your hands are enough to keep the neck coated, but a little lemon oil won't hurt it. I know what you're saying though, I hate moist too.
 
Some of us... including me... wax the back of the neck. Maybe it's something we do in colder countries... despite a recent heatwave, I don't seem to have much in the way of "natural oils" in my hands... usually too concerned in warding off frostbite in cold rehearsal rooms!

I would say - no lemon oil on the neck but on the fretboard, yes - If necessary I would use wax on the neck / mats
 
That's right, oil for the fretboard and wax if needed for the back of the neck.

But by the way, I use dunlop's lemon oil and it is recommended to avoid using it on maple, don't know if this applies just to dunlop's product or lemon oil in general.

The reason why they do this is to avoid people complaining about their maple necks turning into a darker color. Lemon Oil tends to change the color of the wood a little bit with use over time. And sice maple is such a bring looking wood it would be easier to tell if it turns darker.
 
the oil from our hands darkens the wood due to the pH content of the sweat coming from the palm of our hand,(correct me if i'm wrong, im not a chemist). i have wenge neck, its darker now after 12 years.

why is lemon oil not advisable to be applied at the back of a wenge neck? does it also contains pH? will it weakens the surface, eat the wood gradually so to speak, do some damage? :roll:
 
Lemon oil turns maple darker?!?

I think you've just answered a question Ive been pondering for ages!

I own an old Streamer Lx in natural finish (which I love to absolute bits and pieces!), and Ive always wondered why the maple on mine was so much darker than all of the other maple basses Ive seen, and I do remember my old bass teacher saying something about lemon oil when he sold me the bass.

I cant say I mind tho...the bass still looks absolutely stunning, and the darker shade really brings the flamed maple to life.
 
well, maybe it is destiny, that our beloved instruments grow old w/ us, & as we enjoy their company, we cant do anything as they age. as we continue to bond w/ them we leave our marks in them, our dirt becomes a part of them.

well, i wont mind, just as long as its feel doesnt change, the neck straight & stiffer than ever, its tone continues to please me & the "growl" unrelentlessly kicks some asses! :twisted:
