i left my corvette unstrung for a couple of months, i still kept it waxed, i just didn't have any strings on it.. the enviornment the bass was in was fine, but now i just read that this can be really really bad for the neck. I was just curious, i'm putting hte string back on this one in a week or two, and getting a full tune up, but from experience how bad is this?
thanks,
-Andrew

I think with a proper set up it should be ok, but I really would avoid doing that in the future. I cant think of a single scenario where I needed to leave a bass unstrung. Was there any reason for it?

yeah the nut broke, i should have fixed it earlier, but i hadn't been playing it all that much, i play a few other intstruments as well. I didn't see any harm in doing it, but it's more because i don't really understand how a lot of these things work, now i realize i probably shouldn't have done it and got it fixed right away.

Good thread subject dude, I'd say in the future, if your nuts bust (I hate to bust a nut :D ) and can't be replaced for a while, I'd make a quick and dirty nut out of just about anything a nut can be made of. One little drop of dollar store superglue, the cheaper the better, and get the strings on to return the tension to the neck. You might avoid having to have the guit re-set-up. You want cheap glue cause it breaks real easy so your temp nut will be easy to remove.

If adjusting your nuts aint a high priority you can buy blanks at any guitar store dirt cheap, just file your own string grooves glue it on, use good superglue in this case, and you're good to go.

alright cool thanks guys i guess i'm not that worried then. So pretty much for the most part, i'll be looking forking out for a full re set up, and a new lesson learned? i'm pretty glad to hear i didn't ruin my bass.
