I just had a bizar thought:

we discussed in the past about the difference between "rip-off" instruments (cheap waste of wood), and instruments that use famous designs most respectfully, like the Jazzbass is used by Lakland, Surine and Sandberg. Like Warwick has got the Cream Reunion bass, which is inspired by the Gibson EB, as well as the Stryker, which is modeled after the Alembic Spyder...........

I wonder if like the Thumb, is ever going to be used as a model by another famous bass manufacturer, making it into a really pretty (different) instrument, not rivalling or equalling the original Warwick of course :twisted:

I once inquired at warmoth about building me a thumb style body... I dont believe they would of been able to do the arched shaped, But they said they can make any style I want if I sent the schematics for it. I still went with warwick though

Hmmmm, I can't really imagine someone changing anything on a Thumb. It's just got Warwick written all over it. Plus I don't think there would be a point.

I see it interesting as those builders mentioned could go beyond Warwick custom shop and do things that are not currently available.

For example the custom shop piezo system is very limited in the wiring department.

Also they could change the neck specs or add lightwave optic pickup...

There are loads of things out there.

Personally,

I was more curious to what extent they would change certain proportions like upperhorn length, or body curvature. Maybe they would just stick with 24 frets, and the bass would have a non Warwick headstock. Little things that make you stare at the bass wondering why it looks a bit.........different than the original............nevertheless, it's not a cheap version........it's built decently, and has its own charm........... :wink:
