I apologize in advance for the likeliness of this already being covered, but i couldn't find the post through searching. I am finally getting around to putting on the JAN III and when I line it up, there is a gap between the edge of the fingerboard and the nut, but in the manual, it lines up perfectly. Is it ok if there is that gap, or am i doing something incorrectly?

no need to apologise here. :wink: From what I understand there should absolutely be no problem, but I guess it doesn't look 100% ok. Why couldn't you place the nut against the fretboard ?? A picture would be helpful....... Cheers man. :D

This is how the nut is supposed to sit, according to the manual. Wow thats a terrible picture, but its supposed to be showing the nut flush with the fingerboard.


this is how the nut currently sits, obviously without glue applied yet. The gap in between the fretboard and the nut is the matter of my concern

your camera is more interested in your bed than in your bass. :lol: I figured it would be like that, but I assume the problem is the surface where the base of the nut is resting perhaps ?? It's not flat ?? Can't you make the surface flat with a file ??

ok these pictures are a little better. i made sure that the surface is nice and even and here is the gap i'm talking about. I appreciate your patience.

this is the gap i'm getting. I just want to avoid gluing the nut down and realizing i made a mistake.
 
Ok,

so if I'm not mistaken: the bass is vertically positioned in the first picture, so the nut is resting on the edge of the board right ?? And on the second picture, you have the bass horizontally, so the nut is resting on the face of the headstock. But since the surface is not parallel to the fretboard (length wise), the nut will be tilted a bit, thus creating a small gap...........Is this the case ??

this gap shouldnt cause any problems when the strings are on and putting pressure on it
 
well, i glued it down and with a little prayer, it turned out fine. I appreciate the help guys
