JAN III not free in Canada?

It's nice that Dana B. Goods is supplying the new nut for free to US residents, and that Warwick, apparently, is doing the same for European owners, but up here in Canada it's $9.00. Not much, so pretty reasonable, I guess, unless you make the mistake of taking your bass to a dishonest repair guy, as I did, who takes your new nut, keeps it, sticks on another JAN II he's got lying around, and claims that that's what you gave him in the first place! Hard to believe, I know, but sadly true! Anyway, now I am ordering another JAN III (another $9.00) and taking my bass to the closest other dealer I trust, Long and McQuade in Ottawa, two hours away. Wish the nut was free at least.

Well, if you happen to be a lefthanded player I can hook you up. DBG sent me 2 lefthanded JAN3's (4-string) by mistake the first time around...

Thanks for the kind offer EVOLVEBASS! Unfortunately, I'm a righty. How's the JAN III working out for you though? All good? Easy install?

I only had to install it on my (older) $$, but it was easy to do and works great...
 
Didn't know they were free. I'll contact Dana B. Goods now...
 
Why drive 2 hours when you can replace it yourself in 1/2 hour? Once you do it you'll be surprised how easy it is.

Believe me, I've thought about it! I just don't want to do anything to mess up my bass. I'll go back and check out some of the relevant how-to threads before making a final decision.
 
It's easy. The only complication I can think of is if you would need to add a shim to line it up correctly...

Hey Jay,I found this recently & thought it might interest you mate.

Its impossible to screw it up. Remove the strings, pick the old nut out with a sharp blade. The glue isnt strong and it will lift off easily. Scrape off any remaining adheasive from the area, use a couple drops of wood glue and replace the nut. Clamp it and let it dry. If somebody at the factory put it on then we can to. Theres no mystery about it. Go for it cuz........

You are right. Replacing a nut is quite easy. When me and Tyler Krupsky from Dana B. Goods were up in Germany doing the training to repair such instruments we put many JAN II on many basses that some people out there might own soon, and it was fairly easy and fun.

Only in some countries. Each distributor has its own policies towards the JAN III and replacing JAN II with the JAN III.

That is true.

I got a free jack output for my custom from my distributor because my dealer got a bit stubborn about it. I changed it myself.

They wanted me to send the bass to SAT and then once it is there, charge me near 100€ in shipping+labour+the jack because jacks are not covered by warranty.

At least that is what they did with my under warranty Infinity NT last time and I am not stupid enough to be ripped off twice in the same manner.

And I suspect I am going to pay for my 7 string JAN III whenever it finally comes out.
 
It seems that it depends on the city.

I made the search for you, but as I don't know where you are located...

Go to the home page www.warwick.de

Then under warwick tab go to dealer search

There you can select United kingdom and the correct city to get the dealer details.

Thank you, i googled it but got a load of useless stuff about music shops in the city of Warwick. I will have a look on the warwick thing. I'm located in stroud, which is a small town in the south west
 
Sorry it seems that in the Spanish website they confused the term dealer with the term distributor, so what you get is a list of dealers. But in Spain there is no dealer inscribed so they show you the distributor contact details instead!

ah thank you! very helpful. I am now emailing about seeing if i can get any free stuff for my beautiful guitar (streamer stage 1 4 in natural). That makes things alot easier now, thanks.
