Well it arrived yesterday and I picked it up today, my new Fretless Warwick Corvette, fresh off the assembly line...

First off, hats off to Warwick. The Gig-Bag included with each Warwick bass is an absolute monster, and I love the little accessory book with the manual and hoo-hah. Really nice touches, this is definitely my first of many Warwicks to come.

Being my first 'special order' bass, I was amazed at how great the Warwick came setup from the factory. The only thing I had to tinker with were the saddles (I like my action a bit lower than standard). Once I figured that out it was all good to go. Even the nut was lowered quite low which works great for Fretless. Warwick know their stuff. I'm glad I didn't have to tinker with the setup too much, as opposed to my Fender where I only just got it to my liking after about one whole year. The fit and finish are superb. The Tigerstripe Ebony looks sweet in real life. Looks strangely like Rosewood though, but a lot lot smoother.

With both pickups, the Warwick growl is there, but slightly subdued (the Brass frets play a big part in that signature growl). With the bridge pickup soloed, playing at the neck, the tone is amazing. I had a defretted cheap hunk of junk before, and I couldn't coax a good Fretless tone from it, but it's just so easy with the Warwick. I'll get some soundclips soon once my Mac is back from the shop. The part I love most is how expressive the tone is, add some reverb and vamoose!

Anyway enough blabbing, heres some pics.. please note that these do not do it much justice, but you know how it is (I can't take photos for fiddle-sticks :P )

Enjoy!

Congrats on the new bass, very nice! What strings are you using? The stock roundwounds?

Thank you from Warwick for all your really nice comments. Really happy to see that you got your bass and hope that you enjoy every second with it.

Not a problem at all Ollie, you guys deserve the praise. Thanks heaps. This wil keep me happy for many a years to come.

To answer KrisG, yes I'm using the stock roundwounds, but I'm waiting on a set of DR Sunbeams (my string of choice, I've got Hi-Beams on my Fender and they're awesome).

Congrats Rick!

Great bass! I see that Warwick came through with the tiger stripe ebony we were hoping for.

Have Fun!

Gary

Yes, a very big congrats! Your 'Vette looks amazing!

digging that nirvana black corvette man! got myself a double buck in that colour scheme and i love it! congrats on your black beauty!!

Congrats!!!! Gorgeous bass. I love working with ebony, it polishes up smooth and glassy. I am curious about how much the bass weighs? Also how many pieces of wood did they use to make the body?

Thanks,

Tom

I had no idea how different the tigerstripe ebony is to macassar ebony, the tigerstripe looks almost golden, much lighter in colour to macassar.Unfortunatly wood can look alot different depending on your screen resolution.

The bass is very light, I'd say it weighs around 7lbs. The body is 2 piece, which I had to analyze very close otherwise it's impossible to tell.

Great bass!

The nirvana black is a really good finish - and still shows off the grain of the ash in the right light. The tigerstripe ebony is a new one on me - although I've read about it - be interested to see one "in the flesh". My ebony fretboard is mostly black, but has some big lighter stripes on it - I think that must be macassar

g'day steve,my ebony sounds like yours, mostly black but if you look closely theres lighter stripes thru it.I thought I had tigerstripe because of that but its definatly macassar ebony on my thumb. My europa's macassar is totally black though,I think its stained.

Hi Greg

Yeh!

I thought mine was rosewood when I first saw it... the shop had to get the resident expert in to convince me - although I knew Warwick don't do rosewood (except on Rockbasses) - it was like a scene from a horror film, where nothing quite makes sense. Anyway... made a right arse of meself, so I won't be going back there again!

You can tell it's ebony though... the lighter stripes are yellowy rather than rosewoody... the grain is much tighter... and it polishes up like glass.

The tigerstripe is something else though... I'm even beginning to convince myself I might like it - makes a nice contrast to the nirvana black

Greg, I thought my 2005 Thumb NT5 was tigerstripe as well, but now that we've seen close-up photos of Rick's fretless 'Vette, I can see the difference.

By the way, how's the knee?

Just a very quick correction. Warwick uses Rosewood for fingerboards in Infinity Basses. This wood can also be ordered as a custom option through the custom shop for any bass you want.

To be honest I don't like the look of rosewood, and the TIgerstripe Ebony looks way too much like Rosewood for me to like it :? . I guess I'll just have to shop for an Older Katana NT

Just to let you know, the Tigerstripe is actually a lot darker in real life. The flash from my digital camera brought out a very lighter colour than it really is.
