Hello everybody, I just introduced myself in the cafe and already got a question. I´m sneaking around some offers on ebay Germany and would be glad to get some advice on this offer here:

I´ve asked the seller some questions about trussrod, woods and whether the neck is okay. Now I´m waiting for the seller to post answers. If I read the serial number correctly this has to be a 1999 Thumb. F 063933 99...?? Anyone can tell if this is a good offer? 800 € is about 1200$ US at the moment. Can you tell what kinda wood the bass is made of? The fotos are not very good.

Thanks in advance!

Mike

heyy Mike welcom to the forum!
Yes it seems to be a pretty good deal!! the Warwick Thumb BO is made out of ovankol wood. for neck AND body. the fretboard is wenge.. a new thumb BO 6 would cost u about 1800-1900 euro. so id say u take it. the seller got a 100% positive reputation so i guess hes trustworthy plus if u hesitate to get it from him for that money just drive up to berlin and check it out. i know franken --> berlin is quiet a distance but mayby its worth it ;)
anyways good luck and viel glueck with the thumb.
wir deutschen muessen doch zusammen halten ;)

Thanks for the Einschätzung, warwickdread. Well it´s pretty international here. Germans in Shanghai... very impressive! So you´re shure about the wood? Are you able to see, if it´s got natural oil finish? I hope the seller will give me some more details. Anyway, it seems to be a good deal to me, too, although I don´t like the thought of bidding on a pig in a poke. I won´t be able to go to Berlin before the auction ends, so I will have to trust him.

100% sure regarding wood and finish. except it would be a custoum shop order but if it would be one in the back of the headstock there would be a plate saying "custoum shop" plus it would be a lot more expensive. so u can be sure about the following:

1.) it is the bass u r looking for
2.) price is awesome!
3.) bass looks like its in good condition, of course u never know how it sounds.

have u played a thumb BO 6 before?

No, I have tested the five string in a shop. It was awesome! I consider this ebay offer because of the good price. The 6th string would only be a bonus. And maybe an opportunity to broaden my mind and improve my skills casually. Originally I´ve been looking for the five string. The instrument will be used for studio purpose in 90%.

id love to hear a few sounds samples after u received the thumb. i pick mine up in winter. but we have our house in berlin as well so sadly we cant compare the sound ;) send me some of ur studio recordings later !!!
alles gute
Stenger

Thanks again, of course I´ll do so. Provided that I win the auction at a good price.

Grüsse nach Shanghai
Mike

ahh right i forgot its about beeing the last on the button when the counter strikes 0... well i hope u do win it and the price doesnt rise up too much more.

I'm not an expert but '99 means that it can also have a Wenge neck and there's no good neck picture there.

i had a thumb bo4 (ovangkol body/neck) and thumb nt6 (bubinga/ovangkol/ebony), the bo was an amazing slap machine, but the nt had better low end, fatter bass and low mids and smoother sound overall. the bo was more aggressive in the mids/high mids....
I'd say buy the Thumb bo6 (if you like the dry angry thumb bo sound) or try to find a used Thumb nt6 but they are more expensive....than 800e...

Where´s my thumb???

Well people, that´s really sad. The seller stopped the auction. :(( Without even answering my questions on the bass. So either there was something wrong with it or he wanted to avoid selling it for cheap. So search goes on.

thats IS sad keule.. mayby thats ur chance to call him and give him offer him a better price. this way u might have the chance to quickly drive up thehre and check it out and even take it with u on the way back. which makes sure nth on the shipping gets broken plus u see what u buy and u dont have to pay for any shipping..
and it cant be more then 5-6 hours with a car ;) otherways
if that one is gone u might find a 5 string thumb bo for that price. or a NT 4 if ur lucky..

for ur warwick future : GOOD LUCK and i hope u find a sweet new offer. ill have my eyes open for u 2 ;) mayby i find sth sweet for u..
