Is GC going to stop selling Warwick?

Has anyone heard if GC is going to continue to sell Warwick. I was in GC yesterday and found a ash vette for $699 and a $$ for $999. Both were brand new and marked on clearance. So this has raised my curiosity. Is GC riding of its Warwicks???

  • What you saw is the normal cyclical clearance prices.

    If you look closer, you should find odd things such as
    a 4-string, NOT on clearance, for hundreds more than
    a same-model 5-string that IS on clearance ... or like
    the active and passive models of the same ax where
    the active version is $30 LESS than the passive ....

    At my local GC, there are two black BN $$ Vetts and
    the 5-string is $50 LESS than the 4-string, both with
    "Clearance" tags.

    I didn't buy any Wicks tho, cuz the MarkBass stuff is
    also on clearance. I always dug their MiniMark 2x6
    combo, but $850 was always too steep. Just a few
    days ago, I bought mine on clearance for $500.

    According to the manager, the reason the clearance
    tags can show stuff like an extra string for $50 less,
    between otherwise identical basses, is that the two
    major factors for computing a clearance tag are age
    of inventory and history of demand. Since a 5-string
    usually costs extra, demand is lower. FInd a 5-string
    thaz also older in inventory, and it winds up tagged
    lower than the 4-string that has better demand and
    is not as old in stock.

    Of course, if GC just happens to be dropping Wick,
    thaz a seperate issue ... but the clearance pricing
    right after xmas is normal. Their MarkBass prices
    are VERY low on clearance, and EVERY MarkBass
    item was included. IIRC, GC has just a one-year
    exclusive on that, so the pricing prolly represents
    either the approach of the end of that year, or it
    may mean GC is dropping MarkBass. Who knows ?
 
When I stopped into the New York City one a few weeks ago I was told they were dropping Warwick, but its a good chance that they mean to just pick them up again after the Hanser change over.
 
I do nor think nor have heard they are stopping to carry them. I see these Clearance things on GC all the time at the one at home. :wink:
 
Doesn't look like Warwick, but maybe RockBass. I checked Musician's Friend, they only show 2 RB's, the 4 and 5 string Corvette Standards, both clearance items. The Warwicks are mostly not clearance. Since GC and MF are the same company I wouldn't worry. Worst come to worst get your Warwicky goodness from MF.

ditto...i've been outta work for a while. if I had a job I'd be on the phone right now buying that sweet thing!

Musicians'friend has a lot of Wics in Clearance too:
 
Could be liquidating DBG stock to clear ledgers, then stock with Hanser-supplied 'Wicks...
 
GC will continue to offer them online, but at least my local GC is liquidating them and will stop carrying them. They wouldn't even special order me one when I talked to them back in Feb.
