So guys, if I want to clear up the smudge around the playing position and volume knob am I looking at sanding or will cleaning and waxing do?
And if sanding is the thing to do, what grain?
I dialed back the contrast on this pic because I think the seller has been hyping up his photos a bit. Seems about natural like this at -20% contrast...

You’ll need cleaning first, and remove the buttons. I don’t yjink sanding will be necessary. Try at first with some dishsoap in water (not bathed, just cleansed :) ) I’m personally a big fan of window cleaner as it degreases and cleans with some alcohol. Of course you’ll need to wax afterwards.

I can't really tell because the picture is small, but what Henry says seems to work for me usually.
The area above the strings looks like the same damage as my Thumb 4 BO, so expect a hole in the guitar from years of neglect.

I would try soap water / dish washing liquid with a kitchen sponge. Take out the battery ;)
See if it rubs off. If not, try a 240=>400. Bubinga wouldn't change much in colouring. I had some pretty dirty maple and also cherry, which I hand sanded before waxing.

Yes. Whatever cleans hands or dishes, as long as you dry it and wax afterwards. Like any wood table you might have.

Eggslicer time...Was a silly deal for a guitar of this level...My only guitar is an 8 string and as cool as it is to look at and it is super nice to play being the two lower strings are messy at best. Again if I am going to own a guitar it has to be something cool to look at because it doesnt get the play a bass will ever. This is a PRS Custom 22 from 07.

Big purge is looming though...

I just snagged this beauty (I hope) off Reverb. I have been wanting one for a loooong time. Now I'll find out if the having is better than the wanting.
