and can u tell me wat u know about amps
thanks

Thumbs are as good a choice as any for metal, and you can wear them as low as any other bass... (and any bass worn extra low will f*ck up your back in the end anyway, so might has well to it with a bass that has the proper bark!)

Seeing you already have a rockbass vampyre, check out the Vampyre Dark Lord, a metal beast if there ever was one... Factory tuned to F#BEA, you can just as easily tune it to BEAD or whatever tuning you need...

As for amps, what do you need? Practice, gigging, with PA support, without PA, facing a super loud drummer, two 7-string guitarists with full stacks? We'll need a little more info...

well the thumb NT is a great metal bass ,as is the buzzard JE or BO,or the vampyre. as for amps the warwick extreme is a great metal amp, with pure solid state growl.

vampyre dark lords are sick!!!

should wear ur bass where it sits comfortable, can play with better technique and not stuff up ur back

Yes,

there is no law that forbids wearing the Thumb low. But have you actually tried it ?? It's not recommendable at all........... :x

As I said, it's not recomendable to wear any bass too low...

Actually, you said that you can "wear them as low as any other bass". I interpret this as a statement that balance of the Thumb when worn low (without definingh what low is) is similar to any other bass. Apparantly you were referring to something else, but I disagree on the aspect that the Thumb balances like any other bass, especially when worn low.

Fair enough, but that said, the Thunderbird for instance, is notoriously badly balanced and yet as a "rock bass" is almost always worn too low for comfort...

But indeed, one only had to look at Ryan Martinie who wears his thumb at waist level in a genre where the guitarists wear their instruments around their ankles... :P

I wonder whether it is physically possible to wear that dining table called the Thunderbird at waist level.......
Man, I remember getting my first bass (Yamaha). I wore it like an average rock bassist. Low, but not too low. I was like "what the hell is this crap: it's super uncomfortable...... :x " I've always played the bass high like Ryan does since then.

i guess a vampyre shape is good for wearing the bass around your ankles ... so are the streamer and corvette... i think the thumb doesnt balance too well when you wear it around your ankles... i dont think it looks good too (like the thunderbird... looks good, but has really crappy balance, as thirdthumb said).

why would you wear a bass that low? ... oh well... if you are required by the band to play only the E and A strings, i guess wearing it sid vicious style is the only way to go... at least you look cool with that.

Norwood Fisher wears his Thumb quite low.

Norwood Fisher from Fishbone wears his low.

Thumbs are great. the BO ones are not that heavy, the NTs are heavier and therefore has the potential tu hurt your back eventually (but I think any bass does).

I love thumbs and Vettes $$.

not just his thumb...

the guy has a nice collection... :P

THUMB

Get a thumb bolt-on 5! It cuts through perfectly to compete with any metal guitars! The growl is amazing - like a mild distortion with no muddiness, perfect for metal! As for amps Ampeg or Mesa.
