I need a Streamer

Hello everyone!

I've been craving a Streamer for a while now.
I was planning on ordering a Streamer Stage II but as you all know these are a tad expensive and I bought a car so I couldn't get it anymore...

So now after planning out my expenses, it seems that near the end of the year I might have enough to order a Streamer.

This time though I'm considering a different variant of the Streamer. 6-string Streamer for sure. Maybe a Bolt-On to lower costs... And with the standard string spacing.
And I also want to go with traditional woods instead of the exotic woods like Afzelia... (Hopefully I don't regret it. lol)

I'm looking for a punchy, open, defined sound that cuts through. Not so woody, or thumpy.
I'm still debating on the pickups but I'm thinking two MM style pickups (Most likely a Streamer $$) although, I'm not sure if I want to go Bart pickups or EMG's. For preamp, I'm thinking Bartolini.


I think a basic build would be
Alder body
Maple neck
Rosewood fretboard

maybe swamp ash but then again I would prefer a near Thumb-like weight. (That may be too dramatic, though)
I don't like super light weight basses, although the most comfortable, it feels like I'm holding a toy...

Let me know what you guys think!

I know there's probably a bunch of threads like these but with Guitar Center being my only local store, It's hard to try out several Warwicks. Especially here in my area where Warwicks aren't sold regularly. The last Warwick they had was a fretless Warwick Corvette Std (which I bought on clearance 8: )

If you are not sure about the woods, why don't you simply buy a bass in standard configuration

Streamer $$ ash body, maple neck, wenge fb
Streamer LX maple body, ovangkol or wenge neck, wenge fb
Streamer stage 1 maple body, maple neck, wenge fb
Streamer cv ash body, maple neck, rosewood fb
Streamer Jazzman ash body with maple top, ovangkol or wenge neck, wenge fb

these are combinations that have proven results and chances are good that you get them for a decent price.

You're right. I guess I just got caught up on getting a custom shop... So many possibilities!
I found a sweet deal on a Streamer Stage 1 5-string though.
It seems pretty standard, nothing special
All Flame Maple
Gold Hardware
Blue Finish
I have to check on the pickups. The only bad thing is that the bass is from Florida and I'm from Texas so I'll have to rely on pictures...

And then I found another 5-string Streamer 1 but it's a fretless. I already have a fretless Thumb so if I bought this Streamer, it would be with the intention of getting it fretted, but it's a little intimidating... Of course I won't do the fretting myself.

Any suggestions or concerns on fretting a fretless bass?

Apart from having the side dots in the wrong place having the bass fretted is no big deal

I know the bass that you are speaking of and tried it out last weekend. The Stage 1 plays as it has been put through the ringer. The body is in good shape and you can tell its age through the hardware. I was a disappointed as I would of loved to have picked it up previous to playing it. I just wanted to give you a heads up as I am currently looking for a thumb and it worries me to buy one before trying her out.

If you want punchy sound that pokes through the mix like a sword then you should try the TJ/P-pups with 3-band EQ like the one on a Thumb "Dirty Blonde"! I absolutely ADORE the way mine sounds!

Dang, I wish I would have read this before, I just pulled the trigger and ordered it...

Well I'm not too concerned with the hardware. If anything it'll give me an excuse to change the hardware, I guess. I don't fancy gold hardware much. I contacted the store manager and he stated that everything was fine with it. No major dings or dents, neck is straight, and action is low. If anything I can get a refund.

I ended up pulling the trigger on a Thumb BO 5 last night so I am in the same situation as to wait for the delivery. Here is to both of us :beer:

You'll love it. Even if its a little worn, as long as the neck is good and the electronics are sound...you'll still have a SS1 (a holy grail of basses as far as many are concerned). Anything else is cosmetic and fixable

  neck through with jazz/p pickups on 4 string (soapbars on 5 and 6 string)

The custom shop is truly something special!
