I got my Thumb BO BN 6!

Dear forum members!

Yesterday, 2006 nov. 3, I GOT MY Thumb BO BN 6. I have to tell you that this instrument is THE PERFECT BASS! Yes, this is my conclusion after about 2 hours of playing and testing.
[Of course, these impressions will have to be confirmed in time.]

NECK

My Thumb's neck is the widest possible - I think that only the 7 and 12 strings Warwicks can have wider - and I presume that there are bassists who thinks that this neck is too wide and uncomfortable. I want you to know that this neck is VERY COMFORTABLE and easy to play! I love it, so in case of buying further Warwick instruments I will opt again for broad neck.

:idea: There's an idea of mine [and I expect Mr. Oliver to let us know if I'm right or wrong]: I think that the wide neck gives a big plus in terms of resonance*. The neck's width defines a biggest surface for resonance [than in case of the regular width necks] and transfers it on a biggest surface on the body.

*if this presumption is right [and I believe it is…], in terms of resonance, there is no way to compare the Thumb BO with a Corvette $$ [my previous instrument].

WEIGHT

According to Warwick's specs, The Thumb BO is a little bit heavier than a Corvette $$. It was amazing to notice that its weight is distributed somehow more uniform and it feels as it would be lighter [!] than the Corvette $$. What a great surprise!

NECK-BODY BALANCE

I read many discussions about the Thumb BO's "heavy neck issue". I want to state that THERE IS NO SUCH PROBLEM! I have a medium-length [but wide] strap, I play the bass keeping it in a high position and if I wouldn't read about this problem, I think I wouldn't though about it...

THUMB BO BN versus CORVETTE $$

In this point I wouldn't buy a Corvette $$ once again. It's a great bass, but can't be compared with the Thumb BO BN 6... The difference is like the difference between a boy and a man: one of them is weak and shy and the other is strong and proud.

So, my first impression is very-very good! I would like to thank Warwick for this artful bass! It's fascinating to have a musical instrument which is just perfect!

Could you comment the following idea from my first post?

Congratulations there bassplayer. Sounds like you have acomplished something all of us want to: finding the (in your opinion) perfect bass. I'm not all too much of a BN fan because I'm still a "boy" with freakishly wimpy fingers. I have played a Streamer LX BN 5 and Streamer Stage I 5 but never a BN bass with 6 strings. That has to be something you need to get used to. I agree that you couldn't possibly compare your new bass to a Corvette $$. They're just too different. Besides, the Thumb BO BN 6 is just a "higher class" of a bass than the $$, regardless of the fact that they are both Warwicks. I'm still saving for my love, the Thumb NT 5. I think it's great that you found a bass that fits to you and satisfies all your needs. Congrats again!

P.S.: Some pictures would be nice. :D

I'm interested in your comments on the playability of the BN... but I suppose I'd actually have to try one out.

Technically you're right, but it would be barely noticeable.
 
The wait is finally over,well worth it though eh Zoltan.It looks like you found your soul-bass,(like a soul-mate but bassier).I hope to pass my Thumb onto my son when he grows up,that's how I feel about my Thumb & I think it's fair to say you feel the same.Congrats mate. :D
 
Congrats on the purchase. I also own a Thumb 6 Bolt-On Broad Neck and was surprised at how playable the neck is, despite it being as wide as a 2x4. Post pics!!!
 
same here Thump... not going to sell a single one of my warwicks... going to pass them both down the line!

Congrats !

As far as I'm concerned, I'm not a fan of Broadnecks...

I love the 16.5mm string spacing. I play on 5-string basses and I'll probably go for a 6-string one day, but I can't imagine playing on a 6-string with 20mm !!! :shock: Too wide for my taste.

I guess I can understand you. The only six string with a compareable string spacing I've ever played was an Ibanez BTB406QM BBL. It had a 19 mm spacing and was VERY comfortable. I was so surprised about how comfy it was that I almost bought it but then I went with the SR500.

Ah, another thumb 6er! I too have a 6 string thumb broadneck and I love it to death (other than the crappy jan2... my new brass version should take care of that though :)) I was expecting the neck to be so wide I couldnt reach all the strings but its the most comfortable neck I've ever layed my hands on. Awesome bass and the best warwick I've played yet :)

It sounds like Santa Claus visited you early this year.

The bond that musicians have with really great instruments is something that is oh-so-special, and it is very cool that you have shared it here with us, since I think we all understand what the bond feels like and enjoy discussing it.

Hey Zoltan,I thought you'd be enjoying your new Thumb coz we never see you anymore.It's really hard to put your Thumb down during the first year & separation anxiety is best suppressed with meditation than medication. :wink:
