I bought a new bass today

I've always fancied a fretless and have been tempted a few times, but really wanted a five string.

But then this came up local to me, the guy was prepared to deal so it fell into my hands for £60.





The brand is Vintage and it plays pretty well really. Around £250 retail I think.

The active electronics are really noisy and I had to dump the flatwounds after an hour as they were starting to blister my right hand fingers (ouch) but I'm quite pleased at what I got for my money :)

If I like playing fretless, I'll be after a SS2 V string, but not until I have some more cash :lol:

Nice snag.

When buying a mass market bass, the FL version is
the better bet anywayz. You won't get stuck with a
careless fret job ... and the FB is shaped by CNC so
it's of much better "craftsmanship" than the fret job
you'd get on an equivalent fretted version :-)

Yeah, i'm really digging the fretless thing after i defretted my streamer. I'm thinking about getting a fretless CS instead of my usually fretted dreams. But i think some of it is the newness of it...

The only thing about this one is that it's unlined, so I'm in at the deep end :lol:

nah unlined can be easier if your use to playing fretted as you'd instinctively try and play it like a fretted.

But nice find :D fretless is very fun!
 
My brother used to have a 5 string fretted one of those its a nice little bass which plays nice and has a surprisingly good tone to it (mainly because of the bubinga probably).

I want to try a fretless as some point.
 
Nice bass for that cash and with the bubinga body a nice sound. 8)

I used to have one of these, in fact I think it was my first fretless too. Did me for a couple of years and certainly got me hooked on fretless. A fretless Wick after this will be like a dream so get saving the pennies and in the meantime enjoy your new beauty.
