Imho da fake boox is da main reason why da forum iz less busy than a couple of yearz ago ... 8:

Maybe it'z a kewl idea to put kewl newz or threadz from da forum every now and then on da fake boox too, so people who only do da fake boox see wut'z happenin here and might get inspired to visit da (best) forum (of da planet) too ?

The real thing that bothers me isn t the forum , it s the price of the top of the line basses that goes out of hand , as with CS basses too .i wanted 2 more CS next year but I ll forget it big time . Salaries go down , bass prices go up , if the prices go up within reason , but like the way they are , I m dropping down .
 
I think incredible basses have become more affordable ;) Better and cheaper on the whole.

Sure, the very top of the line Warwick basses are still expensive, particularly custom shop instruments. In my opinion they should be expensive; they represent the very best of the best, using amazing materials, and painstaking construction methods including a huge amount of attention to detail and time.

On the other hand, we see amazing quality instruments at affordable prices in the Pro Series line, and really special things coming from Rockbass at ridiculous prices.

So, players with limited budgets can get really great instruments from Rockbass series basses at silly prices; players with more extensive budgets can get fantastic instruments from the Pro Series line at very good prices, and those with more means can buy the best of the best.

Sadly, I would like to drive a BMW M6 Coupe, but I can afford a 16 year old Ford.

It is hard to explain, and I don't really understand the economy very well, but the prices are not really going up... The money have less value, the basses stay the same... We work with wood, with electronics, we use power, etc. All those prices are going up. Consider the Warwick Bass a currency. If a Warwick bass costs more EUR might be that the Warwick is more expensive, or that EUR is cheaper...
We don't want to build expensive basses and keep customers away. But we want to build the best instruments possible, and as Hans Peter said - we are damn close to that!
The world is in crisis right now, and bass manufacturers have two options:
1- lower the quality and keep the prices down
2- keep the quality, but raise the prices.

We are special, and we actually are doing our basses better and better. The price just follow the quality of our instruments.
Check the topic with my XBASS bass. I sent it to Warwick for some minir repairs, and I asked to be refinished in the same color. Man, it is like night and day!!! My bass was built 4 years ago, and after 4 years the bass is so much better in every aspect!!!

List prices have always been high.
Its the street prices that have changed more drastically.

Obviously an online store like Thomann has a lot of influence in this. They are the ones who raised the price of a SS2 5er from 3600 to 4400 overnight earlier this year to mention one model.

Compare Warwick prices to other niche market basses like Marleaux, Le Fay, Adamovic, F-bass etc. and you will see they are pretty much in line. Do distinguish NT models from bolt on ones.

I think you are spot on, its easy to compare prices with mass-producing companies because wicks are popular and growing, but the gear thay make in germany is best compared in terms of quality to niche manufacturers. Warwick is not the smallest of the big manufactureres, its the biggest of the boutique crafters IMHO.
 
Indeed! Current production is around 1200-1500 instruments per year, and the quality is higher than ever. Although we utilize some state of the art machinery, they are far from mass produced. We have an amazing staff of highly skilled craftsman throughout every step of production. In fact, we now spend 3x as long to build an instrument...and we feel they are truly the best basses we've ever produced.

Maybe it's just me but coming from a manufacturing background operating very similar equipment I think it would be cool to have the German built instruments signed by the workers that built it. You know something in the neck pocket, control cavity, or under the pickups.

That is the one thing PRS does that makes me absolutely love their work.
