So after a much anticipated wait, my ProFet 5.1 arrived today. I rushed it to where my 411 Pro cab is and hooked it all up. It didn't work.... I'm hoping because my practice spot is in an apartment building and I don't think there is enough juice coming from the outlet to power the head.... and not because when I took the ProFet out of the package, it was apparent that it had taken a blow in shipping because the one tab was bent back at a 45 and the mute button had popped off.

Total bummer... the cause of the amp not working remains to be seen... However, in order for me to find out why it won't work, I need to move it to another location. But I can't do that right now because the 411 Pro cab WON'T GIVE ME BACK MY DAMN CABLE!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Help!!!!! I felt like I was on the verge of being to rough with it trying to get it out and wanted to ask for help before I break anything. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

OH sh*t man, that sucks... who'd you order it from?

That's a real bummer Steve.I think it's best to take the head back to the dealer & get another one,you dont wanna void the warranty by taking it aprt yourself.
As for the cab,are you turning the speakon connector as you pull?Sorry,I had to ask.

cable

No... that's a perfectly reasonable question : )... I was twisting while I pulled... I push the button to release the cable and then I can turn it and it starts to come out... maybe about a quarter inch... then it just stops wanting to come. I couldn't twist it anymore once it released out to that point and it didn't seem to want to pull straight out.

I bought the head off of ebay from a music shop that is about a 7 hour drive away, so I can't exactly just take it back... at least not anytime in the immediate future. I also got the cab from someone on ebay... about 4 hour drive away. I picked up the cab in person (obviously) and the guy plugged it in and tried it out in front of me... worked fine.

If the juice from the outlet is lower than normal (which I'm 99% sure ours are), would that have any effect? This is my first head and cab... I've only used combos before so I'm somewhat new to all of this.

Forgot to mention and is probably helpful.... the amp does power up. The fan comes on strong for about a second and a half and then goes on low and the power light comes on. When I push all of the buttons on the front, the respective lights all come on. When I push the mute button, you can hear the "click" as it mutes. Just no sound from the speakers... no powering up or down sounds... nothin.

The dealer pays any shipping for warranty issues Steve,so dont let them tell you otherwise. As far as you're concerned, your amp should work straight outta the box,if not?it's up to the dealer to either repair, replace or refund. The 3 magic r's.I hope ya get it sorted asap.

Hold on - the head arrived with the rack-ear tab bent, and the mute button popped off?

Why did you even turn it on?

Send it straight back for immediate replacement. That should NOT be open to negotiation. A new product either comes out of the box perfect and ready to go, or it gets swapped immediately. No questions asked.

I think I remember hearing someone else having a sticky speakon cable.iirc they unscrewed the lead, then took it all apart. My memories quite foggy on this so maybe I dreamed it.

Fet amps can work pretty good woth low juice, I don't think this is your problem buddy. It could be the final stage, or a fuse, it happens sometimes during the transport.
Or the mute button, remember? A mute always on is a good enough reason not to hear anything.

Also, please check your cables, connectors well before using it again, this is the best way to burn your final stage. It is obvious something is wrong with your connector :-)

One question:
Do you hear a hiss in your speaker, or the speaker si dead silent?

Cheers bro!

Probably unrelated... but the singer in one of my bands (two bands ago, I think) managed to jam one of the speakon connectors into the PA amp the wrong way round... he was a big guy, so I suppose he just kept on shoving until it "clicked"! It took a long time, but we eventually managed to get it out, and it was OK after that.

But sounds like you need a proper repair or replacement... hope you get it sorted soon!

Gremlins

Alright... soooooo last night before I went to sleep, an idea popped into my head that should've right off the bat (I'm going to blame the fact that it didn't on my being sick all week with the flu and not on years of "herbal remedies") So I thought... hey, it has a headphone jack jackass. Why don't you give that a try? So I did, and it worked out of that. Then, just for sh*ts and ha has I decided to plug the cable back into the amp just to see.... and IT WORKED!! I shat a small kitten... then proceeded to try everything out, test everything for about an hour. Everything works perfectly.

The reason that I didn't send it right back and tried it out first was because I only planned on using this amp for a few months before upgrading... then I planned on keeping this as a backup. I called the dealer immediately upon noticing the damage to let him know and I told him that I was going to test it out to make sure it worked. He promised (and I made him send me an email confirming it) that if at any point the amp didn't work properly, he would replace it.

As far as the speakon cable goes, it works so I'm just not going to take it out. If I need to at any point, I'll figure it out from there.

What incredible sound! Holy frijoles! Killer... I can't imagine how a TubePath or an XTreme head must sound.

Thanks for all the advice and well-wishes. It's working now... if anything changes I'll be back.

Best wishes. 8)

Lol... I'm saying that I was EXTREMELY happy and surprised that everything started working.

I simply cannot believe you are happy to keep a damaged amp.

Have it replaced. The dealer should do it immediately, and for free. Why wouldn't you have it replaced?

...even if you are ony going to keep it for a backup.

A couple of reaons:

1) The guy that I got it from isn't a Warwick dealer... he was selling this rig for a musician who owned it for two weeks before his band split up.

2) It would require us (the dealer and I) to file a claim through UPS, which could take anywhere from 1 to 52 weeks for them to resolve (if they decide to pay at all.... they can be real a-holes when it comes to that). I'm not in a financial position to be able to purchase another amp to use while I send this one back and wait 1 to 52 weeks for another one to arrive.

3) The damage appears to be cosmetic. I understand that the drop might've created a problem that might now show up for a while.... but I just can't afford to be without an amp for any extended period of time; especially when this one, although dropped, is working swimmingly. I have recording sessions coming up in the next few weeks with two different bands, so I need the amp now.

4) I have a signed letter from the dealer that says if anything does stop working, that he would file the claim through UPS to have it replaced.

I appreciate the concern, though.

Ahh I see, the head is second hand, and from a store that isn't a Warwick dealer?

That makes it a different story.

Can't hurt to lodge a claimwith UPS while you keep using the head though...

;)
