Having second thoughts on a dream bass

so, the wonderous katana...um...maybe not so much...
i've played one, i loved it. i got alot of different sounds because of the huge pickup space, but does it cut through the mix? the only reason ill probably stick with this is because of the price, but do you think a streamer/ thumb be better for traditional and non traditional tones?
 
i was looking at the nt katana. but if i went with something else i would go with the bo thumb or streamer stage II. i play everything really. metal, rock, funk, jazz. and my jazz band gives me music from different genres so the bass has to be versitile.
 
You gotta love the price tag on the Katana NT, but that seems so different to me from the Thumb BO or SSII. At performance volumes especially, a maple neck/ebony fretboard with Jazz pickups is going to be pretty bright tonally (but maybe that's what you're looking for). The SSII is awesome by the way...
 
Well Thumb isn't the most versatile bass in the world, but its sound works very well for almost anything. Kinda hard to explain. If I'm playing metal, it works fantastically. If I'm playing jazz, it works just as well.

SSII I can't say but it looks great.
 
The Katana sounds great for slap. It will not cut through the mix like a SSII or a thumb, but has a very nice, warm sound.
 
the average warwick cuts through the mix a lot better than the average "other" bass. even though some models of warwick dont cut like the thumb that doesnt mean they dont cut through at all...
