I'm frustrated. I had a Warwick gig bag that the zipper pulls were broken off. I called DanaBGood seeing if I could get some replacement pulls and they said that it was a defective bag and they would send me a new one. I was very happy that Warwick would stand behind thier product and have an excellent distributor hanle thing in this manner.

Well, now that bag is a little over a year and a half old and used maybe one a week. The inner materials are diffenet that the last bag and appear cheaper as the felt and stitching where the leather patch thing is is ripping apart and hangs up on the controls. This shouldn't happen even if I was a touring musician for a large number of years. So I contacted Hanser and told them the problem. After giving them the invoice from DBG (which they emailed me in 3 minutes after my email in request of it) they said it appears it is over a year old and I'm probably out of luck. This is bull. How pissed would you be buying your new Warwick bass for several thousand dollars and the bag it comes in is defective and not replaced.

Am I looking at this wrong or is this not right for the consumer? Let me know what I should do or if anyone has some pull at Warwick or Hanser.

I hate having a bad taste about a company as it usually drives me to a competitor.

I'd like to add that DBG was so good at customer service that I wish they were still the rep. :(

I've always thought it was pretty lame that Warwick's come in a gig bag in the first place. When I think of gig bags, I think of the $99 Ibanez bass starter packs. Sure, it's a decent bag, and of course there's the arguement that it would drive up the price to include a hard case - but I would NEVER transport a $2k+ bass in a gig bag. Never.

Anyway, for your situation, part of me thinks since all you get is a gig bag, they should be happy to replace it. On the other hand (and no offense), but I find it hard to agree that a bag you've been using for a year and a half falls under the category of "defective". It sounds like wear and tear to me. My suggestion, protect your investment and get a hard case. But that's just me. Best of luck, bro.

Hi Warfender,
I understand you, sometimes you can have bad luck with any gear, including gig bags. But I am afret (to quote Golem) that Hanser's position is the right one now... they really cannot know how much did you used the gig bag, and the Warranty is one year. I don't know what they can do in this situation...

Jeff, someone explained here on the forum why in US they come in gig bags. It is about the size limit for the package, and the shipping will make the basses more expensive with flightcase.
In Europe, all the NT and CS Warwicks are shipped with flightcase.

I can understand why a "flight case" is not included, but not a "hard case"; which easily fits inside the same box Warwick uses to ship a bass in a gig bag (I've shipped several that way). For the record, I wasn't really bitching - I expect to buy a good hard case to protect my basses. And not everyone needs/wants a hard case. I'm just sayin'...

Gig bags ... Not necessarily a comment regarding this specific case or even Warwick specifically.

I agree, I don't use nor trust gig bags at all. All my instruments have hard cases. Even my RockBass that came in a gig bag, the first thing I did was buy it a decent case. Well, to be honest, my URB has a bag.

Yes, I agree with Florin here. I've been on both ends of this issue first as a musician and now as a member of Warwick. You have to look at it from the practical perspective of Hanser's position. I have to admit, every gig bag I have ever owned has had a flaw of one kind or another. And living in NYC I've gone thru quite a few. Though I myself prefer hard cases they just aren't practical in NYC. I have yet to find the perfect (and long lasting) gig bag. If anyone has any suggestions lemme know...

I have yet to find the perfect gig bag...

It's like the unicorn, it doesn't exist... :P

Some people prefer carrying (or wearing) a gig bag... but you're kidding yourself if you think it provides the same amount of protection as a hard case. About 5 years ago my guitar player would have argued it... then he had his all-tube Mesa head slide onto the top of his gig bag on the way to a show. There's nothing quite as convincing as seeing a couple of your tuning pegs and some wood splinters from your headstock fall out of your case as you unzip it... :@

I guess it is tuff since DBG warrantied most everything even without a receipt. I got 2 Jan 3 nuts and a case and they never asked for any receipts, etc. That was to good to be true I guess.

Evolve, you convinced me to start using HSC more!!!!! Sad story for your bandmate.
I have 3 fender hard cases, but I don't use them that much because the basses don't fit tight. I think I'll just pad them to keep them from moving and start using them more. Maybe I'll pickup a WW case.

Are the WW cases specific to each body, i.e. corvette, thumb, etc.?

Thanks everyone for your time and input.

I've had your specific problem with every single gig bag i've owned. Tbh as long as its on the inside and not ripping on the outside i've pretty happy. I've also found they stop the wear after a while and tend to kinda settle.

I'm not a touring musician just a s student so gig bags are FAR more practical for me, but i'd definitely get one if the gigs get more frequent and i'm traveling in vans and things more.

Mono cases are supposed to be a great combination of gigbag/flightcase.Lex is endorsed by them,so maybe he can drop by your shop & give you a look at his.

*I'm pretty certain these are the cases.

Yup I have a Monocase and it's pretty damned good... I have the Dual bass case which holds 2 basses

Dude, sorry to hear of your bag woes.♣♣♣♣ happens eh.
Re.the WW Rockcase. They're the same, but you get padded inserts to support the upper & lower bouts of the body,as well as a full length neck support to hold the bass firmly inside the case.
The Rockcase that came with my Thumb had none of the padded inserts, but the bass still didnt move around inside with the lid closed. But they've changed a little since then in terms of the foam cut-out.The Rockcase is an absolute tank in build quality as well as weight.
If you prefer,ya can remove the foam & re-fit it with one solid piece with your basses sillhouette cut out.

We have some universal casses too, with foam inside, and you can cut it any shape you want.

I have gigbags and cases. Cases for normal use, but sometimes it's just easier to have a bag. Like with going to a gig by train. But I would never take my Thunderbird in a bag. Too fragile...

I have some different gigbags and Rockbags are by far better than Fender bags, Gibson bags and other bags. I'm sure you are frustrated, but Warwick is about great basses! If the bass lets you down, go to another brand, but not now!! :)

Thanks for the head's up about about Monocases. Lex! Stop by with one! hahaha..

Hey man, I'm going to come by tomorrow... will bring it then :)
