The pro just adjusted the height of my $$'s and the pop/slap really kicks ass now!

Just got some new recording gear up and running (note, if you're going to record on your computer using Firewire, get a Mac!!!! It took two weeks to get my PC to work with the Firewire properly!), and recorded a short piece to show the slap sound of the Thumb Dirty Blond. Just a warning.. It ain't a great recording by any means!


Mala, the P pickups sound *really* good... It has a great full p-bass tone which sounds amazing when playing finger-style. It's nice for a full-bodied warm slap/pop sound too. The twin J's are thinner, but still have a great jazz tone, and when you mix them together, you can get an endless amount of sweet tones.

Plugged the bass into my Digi001 preamp and Recorded the bass in Pro Tools..
Just added some Compression.

The Drums were made in Cubase SX and Groove Agent and then transfered to Pro Tools..

I have alot of recordings with other basses but not ready to place them here. :lol:
 
I would say if you want a slap sound with a lot of bright sizzly snap, go for an ash-bodied Warwick (like say the Doublebuck, Corvette Standard Ash) or a maple-bodied one (like say the Streamer Stage I.) I would think a bass like that would give you more of that Marcus Miller slap tone

In contrast, a bass like the bubinga Corvette Standard or Thumb have a much throatier slap tone because they're darker woods. This would obviously give you more of that beefy slap roar of, say, Ryan Martinie of Mudvayne.

Personally, I prefer the latter tone, because that really twinky mid-scooped slap tone IMO sounds thin and tinny in a full band mix. I prefer a mid-bumped, throatier slap tone.
