Hello, all. RockBasses are a bit rare in my part of the world -- I snapped up a Fortress but had to drive several hundred miles to do it -- and solid information about them is even rarer. So I hope somebody can help me with this question: Are lined versions of fretless RockBasses available? Or will they be available among the '09 models? Specifically, I'm interested in Corvette Premiums, but I'd like to know whether any of the RockBass fretless basses have lined fingerboards. Haven't seen one yet. (For those who might be interested, the soon-to-be-former U.S. distributor has a couple of blue Corvette basic fretless models still available for sale. Very nice, but unlined.) Thanks.

I am told by the distributor that the new fretless RBs will not have a fretline option. I am awaitng my special order Corvette fretless (and lefty) any day now. Supposedly the fretless will have a fingerboard of tiger striped ebony. The fretlines would actually interfere with this natural beauty. Do you prefer lines? Some singers tell me they need them for the peripheral cue they provide to stay oriented.

I've never met a singer with fret lines. And
I know some disoriented, cueless singers !
Singers with laff lines, yes.
I've met bankers and doctors with fret lines ....

I prefer the lines because I'm not an especially confident player. But I admit they'd screw up the look of the tiger-striped ebony. If Warwick ever does offer lined fretless RockBass models, I hope a different material is used for the fingerboard -- regular ebony, rosewood, whatever. Enjoy your new bass.

Didn't Mo Foster start on fretless with an ebony neck but with lines drawn on with chalk? If you've got a fretted bass of the same scale length I'd have thought it'd be fairly easy to figure out where to draw the lines, and it's a pretty reversible mod once your fingers have learnt where to put themselves.
Personally I hate lined fingerboards cos from a distance it makes you look like you're playing a fretted bass, so you don't get the kudos for playing a fretless. Ok, so I might not be in tune, but, hey, I can live with that if it means people are more impressed! </tongue in cheek>
