thinking of getting a corvette $$ BO in french violet. Im a fan of dark purple and black... very shadowy and gloomy. I saw the purple custom shop Corvette on flamed maple.. looks good. But im wondering how it would on swamp ash. Ive seen nothing but nice stain jobs (red and honey) on a few wicks in my local dealer. But Ive seen some pictues, including thier colour swaches where the yellowy grain shows through along all the lines of the grain... and that wont look shadowy and sleek. Im kinda going out on a limb here, and there seems to be more potentail downsides to trying the purple stain then upsides... and im getting it custom shopped with ebony fingerboard.. so whenever it shows up at my store.. its mine whether i like it or not. I really do want it cause i love warwick, and not many people seem to have purple, but what do you guys think? I want to see it on the custom shop gallery and piss myself with anticipation, no be like... oh shit in a few months ive got a 2 grand pink bass coming my way :P

i was toying with this very idea for monthes about a year ago. my conclusion after putting in weeks of thought were;

yes...french violet will look pink on ash. ash doesnt work very well at all with this colour. it looks a bit weak and watery

to get round this you can get a CS $$ with a flame maple top on the body. with this wood the french violet will look loads better

:D

i am a big fan of the colour, i don't know how it would look on ash though but it does look nice over flamed maple

I totally agree. However, coloured Ash with a high polish finish does look much better colourwise than with a coloured oil finish in my opinion. But do you want a high polish finished Warwick ?? It doesn't feel woody and it costs a lot too. Have you considered a Purple Heart (wood) top ?? If purple is your thing, then you might really like Purple Heart. There is a Purple Heart Thumb in the custom shop gallery: what do you think ?? 8)

lol i actually have made threads asking if i made a full purpleheart bass what the tonal proporties would be. And to be honest when i saw the purpleheart thumb i was like... im not getting a french violet one anymore cause that looks like pink. But then i noticed it was purpleheart... ive definatly considered it for sure though. To be Honest i dont wanna drop a HUGE chunk of money down for asthetics of the bass, the ebony fingerboard is more of a feel thing, and the colour is because i cant stand the natural maple... just looks unfinished to me. So like a top is gonna end up being a huge upcharge which id prefer not to do :P. Im also considering the teal... but seems to have the same problems from pics ive seen as the french violet.

I always thought the burgundy red finish was pretty cool.. a la Stu Z:

I love the French Violet finish, oil, or high polish, I think Warwicks look great in high polish. When I was looking for pics of the Streamer STD I came across an old pic from DGB, I'll post a link, hope it works, cause you can see the colour really well. Keep you fingers crossed.
