found a white thumb 4 nt on ebay....

lex, you have to install a little mirror inside the bass case, so she can check her makeup before "leaving home" for a gig or something.
 
with less than a day to go , the white thumb NT is still at 500 euros!

my first one was damaged... it has a crack through the wood and paint finish where the control cavity is... i had it insured and am having a replacement built... it's almost done!

oh yeah, keeping the old one as it basically has little resale value

Wont the insurance company take possesion of it?That's what happens with cars anyway.

Has anyone noted the crack in the lacquer/paint near the bridge of the Thumb in question?

time to take a closer look...
 
Best look at the images on his website link. All of the body shots show a crack running from the rear of the bridge near the G string running around the back! It is a crack, hopefully just through the paint :cry:
 
I could only find one image on the guy's website, but the crack is evident in the pics on the auction too. I had seen that until it was pointed out. It looks like it may start where the anchor screw for the bridge closest to the G string goes in. Which means it may be a little more serious than simply a crack in the finish.

That was my impression! The other 4/5 pics on his site are accessed by clicking on the white Thumb.
 
The crack could also be where the body wing joins the neck, I know there is a cap on top but if the bridge mounting screw has been over-tightened at some point it may have weakened that joint?
 
Well, someone got it for 730 euros, not a bad price for a vintage thumb....
 
I was luck enough to grab this one. Even with shipping to the US and the tarriff it only cost me about $1400.

It has a bit more wear than was visible in the photos -- and the battery box hatch broke in shipping -- but it's great. Doesn't sound like my other Thumbs, probably the paint.

The crack in question is only in the finish and runs along the body - neck seam. It does not extend around the butt of the bass. Seems totally stable.

Lastly, sold to me as a 1986. I have two other early NT Thumbs, both 1987 -- one is a JD model I got on eBay from Switzerland, the other, a "non-JD" model. Both have easily identifiable serial numbers. This white bass has paint and thus the SN is not visible. Prior owner tells me it was built 2/86 -- any thoughts on how I can confirm this?
