I recently acquired a 93 Fortress One. Two things confused me. It had a high gloss laquer finish, and the pickups said MEC in silver and had no push/pull knob but the owner claims they are active. They do say Dynamic Cor something on them. When did W stop with the gloss finishes and are these pickups active?

i can't answer your question about the finish, but i know what's up with the mec pickups:

gold is active
silver is passive

if there is active electronics, you can have a push/pull switch, but it's not necessary:
with passive pickups, it will turn the active electronics off, making the pickups be in passive mode.
with active pickups, it will turn the on-board eq off, making the pickups remain in active mode, but with bypassed eq. (you can't run active pickups in passive mode)

that's what I thought too but he claims these predate the gold pickups.

well, are you sure he knows the difference between active pickups and active electronics ?
both start with "active"....

the only way to find out is to have a close look at the electronics inside.

maybe you could look inside and tell what resistance the pots have.

Dynamic Correction. These are passive pickups.
Look inside the electronics compartment for a battery :-)
Probably it has passive pickups and active 2 way electronics.

We never stop with the gloss finishes, you can order anytime a high gloss finished Warwick :-)

If it has gloss finish it is probably the first version (red/swamp maple) of the fortress with passive dynamic correction pickups 2 Vol 2 Tone Knobs

I have a similar one
