hi folks.

just wanted to ask:

when was the streamer stage II introduced ?

I'm pretty sure 1987 was the first year for 4 strings (the first one should be A 001 87, I have some pictures).

Fist year of the 5 strings should be 1990
 
well, i'm asking, because i bought a streamer stage II from 88.

back then, ssII were equipped with emg pickups ?

do vintage streamers sound different than modern ones ?

i can't wait to test it.
it should be here at the end of next week....

I think Mr. Rabble is right, regarding the 4-String I don't know about the
5 String but I have never seen a Stage 2 5 that is newer than 90. 87 was the year the 5er Thumbs where introduced I think.

To my experience ( I have a 88 Stage 2 and an 89 Stage 2) and had another 88, the vintage stage 2s sound not THAT aggressive compared to new ones.
They have a slimmer neck.

IMO the newer ones have a better EQ (perfect tone shaping for these instruments)

EMG PUs with MEC electronics where standard then.
Schaller Tuning Pegs with a Warwick Logo on the back as well.
The 88s have the 2 Piece Bridge already but it has a different size than newer ones (since 89) and is made of brass.

what do you mean, "aggressive" ?

do mean the high frequencies ?
or do you mean the growl ?
 
The high mid growl. They were made with wenge neck, and wenge is darker, softer sounding than ovankol.
My information is from an official warwick catalogue with all the products when they appeared.

Ok, I said catalogue because I don't speak English very well, and it's similar to a Romanian word :-) It is an XLS file I have from the Warwick HQ with all the models. But as anywhere, mistakes can happen, so I'll check for you.

And the dates are still 86 for 4 stringer and 87 for the 5 stringer as far as I know...

I have that list somewhere as well and it´s not that accurate. Some dates seem very early, much earlier than the models appeared at a Frankfurt Messe, NAMM or in the stores. My guess is that the dates give an idea of when a model was "conceived", so Warwick may well have decided to have a Stage II 4 in ´86 and a 5 in ´87.
I´ll dig into my archives to sift through the Messe-news to see if that helps clarifying things.

Why we can made some image of vintage warwics- witch made in this or that year, whith type of pups, bridges, electronics, woods and so on? :)
For example - Thumb:
84 - Schaller one piece bridge - EMG - carved h-stock - Schaller JD - 4NT
87 - Warwick one piece bridge - EMG, Bartolini - 5NT
88 - Warwick two piece bridge - EMG, Bartolini - MEC 2 band EQ - JANI - Schaller custom for Wick
...
 
Cool, but not that easy to do.

The changes were always in time, it's not like in 87 we changed all the thumbs from Schaller to Warwick Bridge. Some had the old some the new bridge. But it seems like an interesting project.
 
So, as promised, I dug out the Messe issues of the Fachblatt and Gitarre & Bass. The Fachblatt covered the Messe in their April 1987 issue and presented the Thumb Bass 5-string and the Steamer Stage II - 4-string only. Gitarre & Bass May 1991 (!) had several new Warwick basses: The Alien made its debut, a 7-string Streamer Stage I was shown (wonder whether that´s the one that is permanently on ebay) - 7, 8, 10 or 12 strings were optional now for Stage I, II and Thumb - and the Dolphin Pro I and Streamer Stage II were now available as 5-stringers. As I said earlier, I´m pretty sure that developing these basses started much earlier, but they were not available to the buying public much before those dates.
 
The only thing I know is that '88 SSII were made from Afzelia Pommelé, which is pure porn...
