Ouch! Next time, dream about 10 groupies I have never managed to break a bass string. Dunno how it's possible...

That sucks, I used to break strings all the time until one day my now bass tech set my bass up a lot better with a lower action and I have not broken a string in over 8 years at least. Nothing worse than a broken string during a set, at least with Warwick with their bridge you can change a string really quick if you have to.

Men, I have brokened 16 strings on different basses. And the most were A strings ! You could never guess that A string can be brokened. I used to slap and pluck almost 30-35% of every song and I plucked even A, sometimes E dtring, I know, impossible but it just sounds good. I played bass to pluck and slap. Nowadays, I have to stick to fingering because bands are more commercial and no one wants slap in the club..

+ For about 2 eyars I used to care 2 basses on gig not to change them but to have the other one if string broken. But, gig bag with 2 basses has 100 kg so I decided not to break strings anymore and save some health in my back for years to come.

Nacho is one of the lads that brings enthousiasm and fun to this forum while all I've seen you do is vent your negativity on here.
I know I am not exactly a saint myself and can be a whiney bitch at times but not 24/7.

My sister broke an E string once on her bass but her playing was like listening to somebody wrestle a bear and not in a good way.

I broke one string back in 1995, I think, never more. And I´m NOT a sutile, gentle player. Let me know which strings do you use,so I don´t buy them.

I used a lot Rotosound Swing Bass 66 stainless steel and tested various Erie Ball Slinkies.
When switched to GHS Bass Boomers Flea everything changed, they vere tonally better and unbreakable.

But back in 90-es it was questionable what was the quality of imported goods in my country so probably stores imported old cheep stock and I had no idea that freshness could be of such importance.. I suppose that is the main reason why that Rotosound was so bad. Still, I can't make myself to give it one more try.

Now I use DR LoRiders. They are great but I almost do not pluck at all so can't compare it with GHS.

Have you checked your bridge ? Maybe there's a defect in that which is causing the string to break? Where do your breaks occur?
